Brenda Rothert Hi! Liam's book is not finished, I had to cancel its publication due to needing time off for a family emergency. I plan to finish it when I can, but I'm not sure when that will be so I'm not putting a date on it so I don't disappoint readers if I can't make it.

I've thought about writing a book for Austin Lockhart, but never firmly decided whether or not to. I've also considered writing a book about Madison Golden, who was in Drawn Deeper, but again, haven't firmly decided one way or another. Never say never!

Thanks for your interest in my books and the characters you've met in them. It really means a lot and inspires me that readers like you care enough to reach out and ask about my future work. :)
Brenda Rothert This is such a great compliment to receive - thank you. I think my own life experiences have influenced how I write about mental health and abuse. As much as we all wish for a world without adversity and cruelty, it's there. Mental health challenges and abuse are so pervasive, yet they still carry such stigma. Part of what I try to do in my books is to normalize these issues. If people know they aren't alone, that many others struggle with what they are struggling with, there's less shame. Before I have a character go through any challenge, I ask myself just one question - has anyone ever faced this challenge before? If the answer is yes, I'm not afraid to go there. And while these issues are heavy, I think the humor can come in with the people who are there for us no matter what. Those deep, life-changing friendships with people we can laugh or cry with, and they will still be there. If we have at least one person like that in our life, the humor is so much easier to find.
Brenda Rothert I'd go to the world of Harry Potter for sure. What would I do? Well, once I learned the spell for creating an ice cold Diet Coke and tacos, I'd probably just sit back and take it all in. And I'd hug Snape so hard!
Brenda Rothert I'm working my way through the Throne of Glass series, and it's amazing! I don't get as much reading time as I'd like, so getting through all the books is taking me a while, but it's so worth it. I love being immersed in that world for so long. Sarah Maas is an absolute rock star!
Brenda Rothert I open the refrigerator. There's not a single Diet Coke inside. *shivers with terror*
Brenda Rothert Yes! I'm planning at least 8 books for this series, maybe more. The next book will be about Knox, the team's enforcer. It's releasing Oct. 22.
Brenda Rothert I unpublished that book a few years ago, because it needs major rewrites that I didn't want to undertake. But I do appreciate your interest! I have lots of other books out, I hope some of them will work for you. :)
Brenda Rothert Thanks so much! I don't have an update on this, because I haven't written it and it's not on my schedule for this year. But I do have lots of other hockey books out! :)
Brenda Rothert Maybe? I've thought about it for sure. :)
Brenda Rothert I'm planning to write a story for Liam, but I haven't set a release date for it yet. The cover is done (and it's awesome!), now I just have to get the book written. Hope you enjoyed Fire on Ice, Killian and Bennett! :)
Brenda Rothert Yes, it did. Drawn Deeper will release in late June now. I'm sorry for the delay. It means so much that you're looking forward to reading it! Hope you find Kyle worth the wait. :)
Brenda Rothert Thank you, Megan! Kyle's book will be out later this year. I initially planned it for early 2016, but I've rearranged my writing schedule to get to it sooner. I'm not positive on the month, but I'd guess it will be out in November. I'm really excited about Kyle's story. I think readers will be surprised by parts of it, which always makes me happy. :)
Brenda Rothert It's taken longer than I planned for me to get to Bennett. I will definitely be writing his book later this year. It's all outlined, I just have to get it written. I love Bennett's storyline and hope you will too. Thanks for hanging in there for more of Killian, Bennett and Liam! <3
Brenda Rothert Should be by August, but maybe (hopefully!) sooner! :)
Brenda Rothert Thanks so much! I'm writing Mason's book now. It's partially going to depend on when I can get a cover for it, because the designer who did Deep Down books way out. I'm hoping to release Mason's book by August. :)
Brenda Rothert Hi Kristen! This is a great question - I've actually had a few requests for a book about Lauren, and I'd definitely consider it. I'm a big fan of redemption in books, and I'd like to see Lauren make a turnaround. Another of my books featured a former Mean Girl heroine, and she remains one of my favorite characters ever. At the root of the bad behavior of people like Lauren is insecurity, and I like the process of exploring where that comes from and what can diminish it.
I'm working on a novella for an upcoming anthology, and then I'll be starting my new On the Line hockey series. But if something grabs me, I often work it in somehow, and it's very possible that could happen with Lauren. I'm also considering a short work with deleted and bonus scenes from all the Fire on Ice books, and something featuring Lauren would be a great fit there.
xoxo -- BR
Brenda Rothert I think that's an awesome idea! I'm definitely open to it. I'm working on Release right now, and checking in with the characters from the first four books has been a lot of fun.
Of all the requests I get for more stories about my characters, I hear readers want Ryke/Kate and Kyler/Melody the most. I think Ryke and Kate's story is complete, but we could get a glimpse of them in the future through a Kyler/Melody story.
Thanks for your question! :)
Brenda Rothert I don't really believe in writer's block. There are points where I feel 'stuck' while writing, so I move on to another part of the book until I'm ready to go back to what I was stuck on. If it persists, I seek advice from author friends and beta readers, or my editor, about how I can overcome the plot problem I'm having.
Writing often requires discipline. Some days it's more exciting than others. Nothing motivates me like excited readers waiting for that next book. Well, deadlines. Those are also pretty motivating. :)
Brenda Rothert This is a great question. I do consider my books New Adult, because NA is about characters in the 18-early 20's age range confronting the 'firsts' in life -- first serious relationship, quest for a first job, first sexual experience, etc.
I think NA is a trend because it's emotionally gripping to read about characters in these situations. We're usually rooting for them to find their way and get it right, and we sympathize with their missteps. It's a very exciting time in life, and there is something very magical about all those firsts -- especially when love is on the line.
