I've wanted to write since my sophomore year in college. I thought I had the talent to write, but not necessarily the skill. I was my biggest naysayer. I'd start a project and then not finish it. Start another one and not finish it. In 2009, I started yet another project. Right after I started that one, later titled, Fathers House, my mother died. It was her death that inspired me to finally finish a story. I felt Fathers House was connected to her in some way. So, good or bad, after her death, I knew I would finally finish a story.

I actually got the idea for my latest book, Rememberers, back in 1996. It was right after I had one of those deja vu feelings. I remembered (no pun intended) feeling so weird, almost swearing that I'd lived that exact moment before. I felt it could make an interesting story one day. I didn't know that one day would be eighteen years later, but such is life.

Currently I'm working on another crime thriller. This one features one of the characters from Fathers House, Detective Leo Johnston. I have a title, but since it's a little more than a working title, I'll keep it under wraps for now. But I'm very excited about the story. So much so, that I stopped working on the sequel to Rememberers.

WRITE! WRITE! and then, WRITE!. Ignore all the naysayers, including yourself (who is often the biggest naysayer). And also, READ! READ! and then, READ! Read novels. Read how to books on novel writing which can help you learn how to read novels as a writer. I generally read three to five books at a time. I like to see how other writers handle different situations. Long ago, I bought and studied books on plotting, scene & structure, character and viewpoint, etc., and eventually I began reading novels with a writer's eye.

Creating worlds and characters. I absolutely love the creative part of writing. To have an idea in my head evolve into characters, new worlds, situations, etc. is intoxicating to me. It's the best thing about writing.

Personally, I don't believe in writer's block. I feel you can always write something. Does that mean I don't get stuck on plot points every now and then? Absolutely not. When I'm stuck on a particular point, be it the plot or how I want to describe a character, I'll simply move on to something else. I can always go back and edit. So, I just keep writing. So, here's my Jedi Mind Trick--You don't have writer's block. Writer's block does not exist. You will will always write!
