Even as a child, Sharon created worlds where life might pose challenges but where unlikely heroes wielded magic for the good of all. In the end, ordinary people won the battle against darkness.

She did grown up things like graduate high school and college, get married and have kids. But she never strayed too far from the door into the mystical realms of story.

Once she had children of her own, they traveled to Narnia with her. She made it her goal to introduce them to her old friends. With them, she made new friends at Hogwarts and rode dragons with Eragon. Together they embraced the joy found on the other side of the magical portal: reading.

Sharon sings stories and weaves spells to transport others to that fantastical place where the weak ar

Like most people, my life is pretty mundane. That's why I read and write fiction!
However, a fun romantic story could be based on the backwards "boy next door" hooks up with "rebel bad girl" relationship between my husband and I. Usually, it's the nice girl going after the bad boy, but ours is topsy-turvy.
Would you read that book?(less)

For a few years, however, I've been pretty enamored with Gabby and Clay from Melissa Haag's YA Paranormal series JUDGEMENT OF THE SIX. She's working on the final book in the series now, and I know I'll be sad to see their story finished.
Why are they my favorite? Because they are completely an odd couple, yet totally devoted to each other. Gabby is still too young to commit, she thinks, and she wants to finish her college education, live a "human" life. All this mess with werewolf pairs and the Judgements is really messing with her well-laid plans.
Part of their appeal is that they both come from sad upbringings, but they've become strong, independent people anyway. I love characters who overcome a difficult past and forge ahead like they have as much right to be happy and successful as the next person. And, Clay is the epitome of the strong, silent type (annoying when you're a talker like Gabby or me, but appealing at the same time).(less)

Three Reasons to Hire a Writing Coach

As an indie author, I’ve been guilty of thinking I couldn’t afford a writing coach. I learned if I didn’t hire a writing coach, my writing career might end.

I’m a cheapskate conscientious spender. I learned the hard way that eating ramen noodles every day doesn’t satisfy.

Do you want to be a published author? Are you consistently writing your book?

No matter how much money you aren’t making, if you n

“Persevere with a positive attitude - Michael Jordan”
S.L. Hughson

“We take for granted the very things that most deserve our gratitude.”
Cynthia Ozick

“To love at all is to be vulnerable. Love anything and your heart will be wrung and possibly broken. If you want to make sure of keeping it intact you must give it to no one, not even an animal. Wrap it carefully round with hobbies and little luxuries; avoid all entanglements. Lock it up safe in the casket or coffin of your selfishness. But in that casket, safe, dark, motionless, airless, it will change. It will not be broken; it will become unbreakable, impenetrable, irredeemable. To love is to be vulnerable.”
C.S. Lewis, The Four Loves

“She was not a slowpoke grownup. She was a girl who could not wait. Life was so interesting she had to find out what happened next.”
Beverly Cleary, Ramona the Pest

“Words are pale shadows of forgotten names. As names have power, words have power. Words can light fires in the minds of men. Words can wring tears from the hardest hearts.”
Patrick Rothfuss, The Name of the Wind

“What draws people to be friends is that they see the same truth. They share it.”
C. S. Lewis
