Tolkien's world building (races, languages, mythology and history) along with his love of including songs and poetry, was what first attracted me to fantasy writing.

Salvatore and Brooks were the first two writers that had a genuine fantasy feel that I could escape in but the "in your face" action scenes of magic casting, descriptive swordplay, and brutal deaths.

I'm a big fan of the fantasy genre in general but those three have to be my top ones.
