Executive Coach by day; author/writer by night, though these days it's mostly writer day and night with the occasional consulting gig.

I have [self-]published ten books so far: the latest project 'Alex' Choice', is the sequel to my earlier novel, 'The Treasure of Stella Bay', (2021) about a boy growing up in a small village in 1960s Ontario now takes Alex through high school and university. In 2022 we released my autobiography, 'My Story, Mostly'. 'Travels With Myself', another memoir, is about my transition through grief to a renewed sense of purpose; it followed a novel in 2019 about the loss of love [Amitié, A Novel]; three on career and management effectiveness [The 'Dynamics of Management']; and two memoirs about the family dogs ['The M

The problem is not compromising quality for a deadline.
On the other hand, I'm never really satisfied with my manuscripts. I have to keep reminding myself that perfection is the enemy of the good. But is it good enough??(less)

Never thought about this before. I think more about the principal character, and perhaps the main protagonist.
But what immediately comes to mind is Tom Sawyer and Becky Thatcher. Even though exaggerated Mark Twain perfectly captured the twelve-year-old male mind trying to catch the girl's attention. And her assiduously ignoring him, yet we know she is paying attention, until finally they come together as Tom assuages her fears while overcoming his own. Nice story. (less)

25.22 Care for the Caregivers

[This is the sixth (and last) in a series of articles from Guest Writer Catherine Mossop narrating her husband, Brian’s, journey with the dispiriting effects of dementia, likely Alzheimer’s Disease. In our last installment – Musical Mind – we read of the relief Catherine, and Brian’s friend Jeff, felt when Brian, despite being in late stages of his affliction, picked up his harmonica and played, a

The Meaning of Everything by Simon Winchester
"I can't recommend this enough. Fascinating, humor-full and very readable. You wouldn't think this would be funny, but it is. I mean laugh-out-loud funny. Maybe I'm a complete nerd but this is fascinating and fun and full of things you don't need to k" Read more of this review »

As a piece of historical fiction, (1944 Paris under Nazi occupation) this is an interesting piece. As speculative fiction (not my genre) it is too speculative (Second Sight) for me and takes away from the human interest aspects. There are four sister ...more

Sharp incisive writing style, loaded with current facts and incidents (which will become rapidly dated) it paints a vivid picture of what is wrong with Canada. Unfortunately, Hopper offers no solutions.

“I realize I'm crying a little, too. I remember. Sometimes pain is so unmanageable that the idea of spending another day with it seems impossible. Other times pain acts as a compass to help you through the messier tunnels of growing up. But pain can only help you find happiness if you remember it.”

“But there are a few people in your life who become so much a part of you that it feels like you're missing a limb when they're gone.”

“I'd had the idea, once, that if I could get the chance before I died I would read all the good books there were. Now I began to see that I wasn't apt to make it. This disappointed me, for I really wanted to read them all.”
