Hope Ann likes to think of herself as an undercover resistance fighter in the battle for truth. In reality, her bluntness and sarcasm make her anything but ‘undercover.’ The oldest of nine children, she has an arsenal of experience ranging from jiu-jitsu, living in the Dominican Republic for two years, and working with troubled teenagers.

Her greatest struggle is realizing she can’t do everything, but it hasn’t stopped her from periodically trying.

Based in central Indiana, her day-to-day life involves brainstorming theories about Sanderson’s Cosmere with her husband, collecting situation-perfect memes, and struggling to remember the difference between ‘effect’ and ‘affect’. She is the author of nine fantasy books, a writing coach, and a fou

Or rather, I'm writing another Beauty and the Beast retelling, which will be significantly different with different characters. The main reason for this is because, after writing Song of the Sword, I realized I ought to weave the history of Tauscher and Aslaria into the first novella more. Also, none of the other stories were going to follow the original fairy tale as closely as Rose of Prophecy did, and I felt I could deal with the theme better. Basically, I came to the decision that my first Legends of Light novella needed more depth and a slightly different tone to accurately represent the series, so that is what I'm currently working on. :)(less)

Musings of a Minion

Heroes have overwhelming expectations placed upon them, and villains are pressed into stereotypes, but one role no one expects much from are the under-appreciated minions. As this anonymous letter from a minion, delivered by Kirin testifies, they work hard too and would like others to know it. To whom it… Continue reading

“Last year’s leaves exploded into rustling traitors under Haydn’s boots. Branches clawed at his cloak and he ducked, swiping away pale gray webs of moss. Gorawen’s fingers were wrapped around his left hand. A moonstone gleamed from his right. The dim light barely lifted the shadows as Haydn tucked the stone beside a log. Another flash of soaked moonbeams lurked on the edge of his sight. Half-covered, they’d not reveal their path to those following while marking a clear trail for his and Gorawen’s return and keep their own direction sure.”
Hope Ann, Shadows of the Hersweald: A Hansel and Gretel Novella

“Haydn's hand tightened around the stone as he stared at the ground. "I need to find my sister. To save her. Maybe then I will be worthy."
You will never be worthy.
..."I know."
...you are bound yet, and there is only one way you will ever be free. There is only one key for such chains.
Hope Ann, Shadows of the Hersweald: A Hansel and Gretel Novella

“You are as proper as a princess and then blush about it like a farm girl.” “I can punch like a farm girl too,” I warned.”
Hope Ann, Rose of Prophecy: A Beauty and the Beast Novella

“Gundhrold's head lowered until his massive beak was only inches away from Amos's nose. "I am a son of the desert. This was once my home - the home of all my kind. I know every crag, every slope, every crick and hollow-"
Amos rolled his eyes. "Every blatherin' speck o' sand?”
Gillian Bronte Adams, Songkeeper

Gillian Bronte Adams, Songkeeper

“Don't look so stiff and concerned, bucko. Word from the wise, sometimes there's no better place to hide than in the open, and no better way to disappear than to stand out."
"That doesn't make any sense."
"Sure it does. Hogan wrote it years and years ago - you do know who Hogan is right?”
Gillian Bronte Adams, Songkeeper
