I have worked as a civilian contract mechanic for the US Army, a heavy equipment mechanic, a High School teacher, and currently work in high technology computer chip manufacturing. I have been writing science fiction and fantasy stories for enjoyment for over thirty-five years and have published five SF novels with my brothers. I have just finished my first solo novel, Forged by Betrayal. I enjoy coaching youth basketball, working on cars and doing woodworking when the time allows. I have three grown children and live in a small town in NW Oregon with my wife of 33 years.

The one that I think would be the most exciting to me, though, would be Anne McCaffrey's Pern.

The chance to see the big dragons and possibly have the chance to fly on one of the great creatures would make this world my top choice.(less)

I like to read all of the time and I normally read between 80- 100 books in a year.

Whenever I'm writing (which is all of the time), I try to read books in the same genre as I'm writing in, as that helps me stay motivated and helps fight writers block. I also like to read a lot of historical and biographical novels. I find a lot of ideas for future stories in historical events.

After saying all of that, the biggest books on my list right now are a group of Hugo award winners that I am reading, including All Systems Red by Martha Wells, Way Station by Clifford Simak and Double Star by Robert Heinlein.(less)

The Free Lunch

A great book I read this month...
I had the opportunity to read a great book last month.

The book is entitled 'The Free Lunch' and it is written by Spider Robinson.

I have to admit that I have read few books by Spider Robinson. Those I have read have all been great.
He wrote the Robert Heinlein story 'Variable Star' from Heinlein's outline and that was also great.
I was intrigued by the story title Read more of this blog post »

Jeffery’s Recent Updates

Gordon B. Hinckley
“What I am suggesting is that each of us turn from the negativism that permeates our society and look for the remarkable good among those with whom we associate, that we speak of one another’s virtues more than we speak of one another’s faults, that optimism replace pessimism, that our faith exceed our fears. When I was a young man and was prone to speak critically, my father would say: “Cynics do not contribute, skeptics do not create, doubters do not achieve.”
Gordon B. Hinckley

Martha Wells
“I could have become a mass murderer after I hacked my governor module, but then I realized I could access the combined feed of entertainment channels carried on the company satellites. It had been well over 35,000 hours or so since then, with still not much murdering, but probably, I don't know, a little under 35,000 hours of movies, serials, books, plays, and music consumed. As a heartless killing machine, I was a terrible failure.”
Martha Wells, All Systems Red
