I just finished More Than Maybe. Did you know all of the songs in the book or did you have to research all of that music? As a music lover as much as a book lover, I could really connect with the story. Although a lot of the music was new to me.

I've been preparing for this story my entire life. :) Since I was a little girl, I've kept notebooks of lyrics and playlists. As a teen, I binge-watched MTV and VH1 (back when they played music and shows like "Behind the Music") and lived next to my boombox. In order to write characters like Vada, Luke, Phil and Charlie, I needed to be an even bigger music nerd than they were. And believe me, I AM. Every song and music reference came straight from the source (ie: my brain). (less)

I'm a life-long country music fan, but a fan does not an expert make. I spent hours watching old clips of classic artists starting with the Carter family and working my way up to the most recent country music awards. I read hundreds of interviews and even took virtual tours of different artist's busses and venues. Most everything made it into this book, or potentially future ones if they're in the cards, but I can say that most people would be surprised to learn that I actually arranged my tour dates after Luke Bryan's Kill the Lights tour a few summer's ago! I had my work cut out for me, manipulating the venues so that key elements of the story happened in cities I'd had the most personal experience visiting to make it authentic as possible.

Also, I think people would be surprised to read that I've never seen a single episode of "Nashville". That's one bit of research I skipped... :)(less)
