Montrez is the author of the YA urban fantasy Errant, the novella Knockout, and the upcoming YA portal fantasy Labyrinth Park.

She loves writing character-driven fantasy and sci-fi with super-powered action, heartfelt adventure, and heroes of diverse shades, shapes, and backgrounds.

You can follow my progress here on Goodreads. I'll try to leave some fun teasers as I go.

I'm also working on the first book of a portal fantasy romance duology. It has some influences from LOTR, Howl's Moving Castle, David Bowie in Labyrinth, and classic fairy tales.(less)

That's not to say that I don't have challenges in writing, but I guess I look at writing like a journey. You have a starting point with a destination in mind. Sometimes, you have to take detours or reroute.

I'm not afraid to try new things or look at a story from a different angle if something isn't working. Figuring out what works is part of the fun (and frustration, at times).

My writing process also helps. Writing isn't always in the writing. It's a mix of reading, writing, editing, and recharging with good tv. and living, in general.

If I can't/don't feel like writing, I read. I'm not in the mood to read, I recharge. If I'm feeling critical, I edit.

Perspective, attitude and flexibility is key for me.

"Errant by Montrez is a spirited YA contemporary fantasy that perfectly blends superhero nostalgia with urban fantasy. As a kid, I was totally into the X-Men (and superheroes in general), so this book immediately took me back - but it still feels orig" Read more of this review »

“The soulless ones are not our greatest enemies. They were as deceived as We were. Our ultimate enemy is greed. For greed hardens hearts and minds and renders other people as less than human, as merely flesh.”
