Sarah Welk Baynum has an extensive equestrian background which became the inspiration behind her debut novel “Impelled.”

While writing her novels, Sarah draws from previous experience as a working student, show groom, barn manager, working for FarmVet and other various jobs in the horse industry over the years both in her hometown and in Wellington & Ocala, Florida. Sarah also attended Otterbein University and majored in Equine Business and Facility Management.

Sarah still owns horses and actively competes in show jumping and three-day eventing, and horses have been a big part of her life since the age of twelve. Her first horse may have been a gelding, but she has a bias for mares and has primarily owned mares throughout the years.

Sarah Welk Baynum A lot of the idea's for my debut novel "Impelled" derived from my own experiences working with or owning horses, and the time I spent working in the h…moreA lot of the idea's for my debut novel "Impelled" derived from my own experiences working with or owning horses, and the time I spent working in the horse industry. I have done everything from working student, barn manager, show groom and equine health product sales over the years. I was able to pull from my own experiences and feelings about previous jobs and the horses I've loved along the way into my book. Since it also has a strong romance plot, I also pulled from feelings about relationships I had when I was the same age as the main character of my novel.
I think adding those things in there help make a book and characters feel real and come to life - which is certainly what I am for every time I sit down to write! (less)
