Don't let rejection stop you. Keep at it. Keep getting better. Create your own stories. Create your own worlds. Do it for yourself first and foremost. But don't be half-arsed about it. When you put something out into the world, make sure it's the best you can make it.(less)

Thank you for the question. I've just noticed this - better late than never! Here Comes Mr Herribone was inspired by a documentary I watched called 'Being Frank', which is about a British comedian called Chris Sievey who invented an alter ego, Frank Sidebottom for whom he was better known. Chris chased fame and success in various ways until he invented Frank Sidebottom. It was Frank who became famous and successful, not Chris which seemed (to my mind) to eat Chris up. I thought there was something tragic in this idea. (less)

Listen to The Silence of the Heart

Another of my stories, The Silence of the Heart, has been featured on Kristen Holland's Nocturnal Transmissions.

As with my previously featured story, Here Comes Mister Herribone!, Kristin did an excellent job narrating The Silence of the Heart.  You can listen for yourself here.

The story is linked to my novel, The False Ones, and was first published in The Ghastling #18.  It also appears in my col

“Some men are born mediocre, some men achieve mediocrity, and some men have mediocrity thrust upon them.”
Joseph Heller

Ray Bradbury
“If we listened to our intellect we'd never have a love affair. We'd never have a friendship. We'd never go in business because we'd be cynical: "It's gonna go wrong." Or "She's going to hurt me." Or,"I've had a couple of bad love affairs, so therefore . . ." Well, that's nonsense. You're going to miss life. You've got to jump off the cliff all the time and build your wings on the way down.”
Ray Bradbury

Ray Bradbury
“Stuff your eyes with wonder, he said, live as if you'd drop dead in ten seconds. See the world. It's more fantastic than any dream made or paid for in factories.”
Ray Bradbury, Fahrenheit 451

“I only want to live in peace, plant potatoes and dream!”
Tove Jansson, Moomin: The Complete Tove Jansson Comic Strip, Vol. 01

D.H. Lawrence
“Love is never a fulfillment. Life is never a thing of continuous bliss. There is no paradise. Fight and laugh and feel bitter and feel bliss: and fight again. Fight, fight. That is life.”
