I never dreamed of being a writer when I was in elementary school. My desire was to be a singer and to be a guest performer on Soul Train (keep in mind, this is 1979-1980). Throughout elementary school, my extracurricular activities were reading (which I was an avid reader) and singing.
I would try to write when I was nine but because what I wrote made no sense I chose not to dwell on it. A few years later, a family member was so focused on being a rapper; he encouraged me to write as he would write songs. When I look back at that period of my life (1986-1987), Hip Hop was starting to get vulgar and I tried to blend in. To be honest, I never gave it too much of a thought, mainly because I was going through some challenges as well as a life change. The more I think about it, I was trying to understand who I was and what my life was all about. Looking back at that period of my life and now to read this question, I am truly humbled and grateful that I would be as big, if not bigger, a blessing to my classmate as well. You are so right, in that writing is a beautiful gift and that the written word has power. Now that I'm older, I really appreciate the written word more. You melted my heart when you said "when combined with a heart that needs to sing, there is nothing more pure or amazing." I couldn't agree more if I tried - in truth, you summarized my life. By the way, the way you closed your question, you need to release a book! (smile)(less)

The Ten Virgins & The State of the Economy

This was a Word dropped in my spirit on October 27th, 2024 and now I’m finally able to type this out. One of my favorite parables in the Bible is the parable of the 10 virgins, for multiple reasons.

If you think about the concept of the parable, it’s really about oil. The wise had oil along with the foolish. The catch is this: when it was time to meet the bridegroom, the foolish had squandered it
