I'm the author of the Athenian Mysteries.

Nicolaos, the ambitious son of a minor sculptor, walks the mean streets of Classical Athens as an agent for the promising young politician Pericles.

Murder and mayhem don't faze Nico; what's really on his mind is how to get closer (much closer) to Diotima, the intelligent and annoyingly virgin priestess of Artemis, and how to shake off his irritating 12 year old brother Socrates.

There will be more books. I'm currently working on a project outside the series, but I definitely know what happens next in the lives of Nico & Diotima and their tale will be told.

It's kind of you to ask. You might be interested to know that when I was writing Book 3, Sacred Games, it wasn't certain that the series would continue, and in fact I had loosely assumed from the beginning that this would be a trilogy. That's why the final scene of Sacred Games could be read as a completion.

It was while I was editing Sacred Games that the publisher asked for more books. So here we are at Book 7, and the end is not in sight.

Janet Reid, best literary agent ever, RIP

Janet Reid has passed away. She was my literary agent and the reason I was ever published.

Janet’s official obit is being written elsewhere. I couldn’t hope to write such a thing, there were so many facets to her life, and I knew only a small part of the whole.

People reading this will probably know her best for her literary agent blog, and for the famous (in literary circles) Query Shark. Indeed J

“Back in the days when gladiators hacked away at each other, there was always the man who decided whether the defeated should live or die. The job is usually given to the Emperor in movies, but in fact any senior man could have been the designated thumbs-up-thumbs-down guy.
The official title for this fellow was...the editor. (evil laughter in background)”
