It’s been an exciting few months with all kinds of promotions and giveaways. Congratulations to all who won books or gift cards in the three Transcender Trilogy giveaways in March. I’m grateful to everyone who entered. In addition, I wanted to take a few minutes to let you know that I’m revising my review policy somewhat. Up until now, I’ve had a fairly hard and fast rule not to review books in the same genre in which I write (i.e., YA paranormal fantasy). It just didn’t feel right reviewing my “competition,” so to speak. Lately, however, I’ve had a number of requests for reviews, some from authors whose work I admire, and I’ve been forced to reconsider my self-imposed rule. As a result, you will be seeing more reviews of YA books from me. Most of them will be 4 or 5 star reviews for two reasons (1) if a book doesn't sweep me up and carry me away within the first twenty pages or so, I usually set it aside for more interesting pursuits; and (2) I believe that every author who actually finishes a book and brings it to publication has poured his or her heart and soul into the work, and I have no desire to trash someone else’s baby simply because I personally wasn’t into it. I’ll leave that delicate task to the pros. The exception will be when a book has received an enormous amount of press and/or paid publicity and just doesn’t live up to the hype. Then I believe it’s fair to advise readers not to waste their money.
