Embarking on his writing career at age 15 as news editor of his high school newspaper, Richard Sullivan’s first serious venture into the world of journalism came at age 18 as an undercover reporter in Toronto at the height of the Vietnam War, where he posed as a draft dodger in order to document the plight of the thousands of young Americans who had fled there.
At age 19 he joined up with the Clyde Beaty-Cole Bros. traveling circus for an expose on the social order within that world, then at age 20 hitch-hiked his way around Europe for three months on a budget of only $500, ending up in a Polish hospital suffering from dysentery during the apex of communism. With no money to pay the bill, the hospital staff opened a window, turned their back

As I wrote that novel I continued to research and more and more funny, tragic, mind-boggling stuff turned up, and it led me to a second volume, then a third. As of the latter part of 2016 I am deeply entrenched in the fourth volume, which includes the story of America's first acknowledged serial killer.(less)

Richard Sullivan The First Ward by Richard Sullivan
My first in a series of three novels traces the comings and goings of the men and women who emigrated to Buffalo's rough-and-tumble 1st ward, most of whom Irish, and their rise to power in the city government.
History has forgotten the diabolical FINGY CONNERS, who enslaved thousands of families in a downward spiral of poverty and hopelessness.
My goal is in part to bring this man, who during his lifetime had few personal trials or tribulations, to task. He was directly responsible for the deaths of hundreds. No one was allowed to get in the way of his making a dollar.
