Claire Cray writes M/M Romance featuring hot, complicated men in weird situations. Offbeat and character-driven with a Gothic bent, her work is often described as atmospheric and a little strange.

Born and raised in the rural Pacific Northwest, Claire takes inspiration from its wild, moody vibes. Her stories often combine vivid natural settings with steamy sensuality and psychological drama.

I've thought about it, but I don't know. I'd love to do like a stylized collection of short stories and vignettes, with Yuuta following Kazuo deeper and deeper into his kinky, eccentric corner of the underworld. But I'm afraid if I stayed in the Aniki's Garden universe I'd end up fetishizing Japan in ways I'm not comfortable with.

SAYS THE WOMAN WHO WROTE YAKUZA TENTACLE PORN, I KNOW

I do love that retro Japanese fetish/yakuza-movie aesthetic. TONS. If I could figure out a way to play around with that responsibly, I'd be on it immediately. I lived in Tokyo for a few years and would love to write some freaky underworld stories in that vein, but I also don't want to be another white loudmouth feeding stereotypes about Japan. Aniki's Garden definitely felt edgy for me in that respect.

I'm thrilled you liked it enough to ask for more, though! :) (less)

I'm so happy that you like it. I do want to write another book for Theo and have a few ideas. I'm thinking about how I want to handle moving the spotlight from William and Merrick over to him.

Someday I might do something from Merrick's POV. Long ago I considered writing William from Merrick's POV and it didn't pan out, but I'd like to try it on another story. Maybe even a novella retelling the first book from his perspective might be fun.

Hope the second half of William goes well for you :) Thanks for writing!(less)

“Been a pleasure, Don Gato. Have a sexy evening.”
The cat looked dryly at him before hopping down to the floor and sauntering out of the house.
Ken’s face showed genuine surprise as the cat left. He looked curiously at Jin.
Guessing that Ken was wondering if he’d just used his telepathy on the cat, Jin beamed. “Oh, yeah,” he lied. “Not just human minds I’m the master of. I get cows to dance in musicals.”

“How could I have disliked a man with a library like that?”
Claire Cray, Merrick

“Would you be content with so many secrets?"
Merrick looked down, frowning as he pondered the question. "No," he said at length, his thumb still tracing soothing shapes on the back of my hand. "Not if it troubles you so."
"Are you afraid I'll be shocked, Merrick?"
"I suppose we're beyond that."
A bi of hope flickered in my chest and the faint trace of humor in his voice, and I turned my face towards his. "You suppose?" I asked.
"Jesus, I'm a vampire and a sodomite. Who can you trust to hear your sins if not me?”
Claire Cray, William

“Class supremacy can rest only on class degradation”
Jack London, The People of the Abyss

“And yet the quality of the life is good. All human potentialities are in it. Given proper conditions, it could live through the centuries, and great men, heroes and masters, spring from it and make the world better by having lived.”
Jack London, The People of the Abyss

“Also, as I looked at the mite of a youth with the heart of a lion, I thought, this is the type that on occasion rears barricades and shows the world that men have not forgotten how to die.”
Jack London, The People of the Abyss

“Such an easy thing, to be liked. All you had to do was make sure people didn’t know you.”
K.J. Charles, A Gentleman's Position
