Brian Holton is a Scottish poet and translator. He was educated at the Universities of Edinburgh and Durham. He taught Chinese in Edinburgh and Durham and was first Director of the Chinese-English Translating and Interpreting Programme at Newcastle. He then taught Chinese-English translation in the Hong-Kong Polytechnic University.

Holton is the translator of Chinese "Misty" poet Yang Lian. He translates into English and Scots, and is the only currently-publishing Chinese-Scots translator in the world.

His prizes for poetry and translation include the 2021 Sarah Maguire Prize for Yang Lian's Anniversary Snow. His latest book of Yang Lian's poetry is A Tower Built Downwards, and his Scots collections Hard Roads an Cauld Hairst Winds (2022), an ...more
