That way, if I'm writing a first draft of one story and feel creatively stuck, I'll switch to outlining or drafting a different story. It helps break my concentration on the first story for a bit until I feel ready to return to it. The same goes for taking long breaks after intensive writing sessions. There is something to be said for sitting a project aside for a while, refusing to think about it, and going back to it later when my mind is refreshed. Every writer has his or her own strategies, but those are a few that work for me. I hope this helps!(less)

Welcome Readers!

Hello! My name is Nicole and I'm a book addict as well as an indie writer. I'm so glad you chose to check out my GR page and hopefully some of my babies...I mean books.

Currently, I'm working on an urban fantasy romance novel about dhampyres (an untapped segment of the market, I've noticed). My hope is to get it into the hands of a publisher someday. Wish me luck! :)

For the time being, feel free to Read more of this blog post »

C.S. Lewis
“No man knows how bad he is till he has tried very hard to be good. A silly idea is current that good people do not know what temptation means. This is an obvious lie. Only those who try to resist temptation know how strong it is. After all, you find out the strength of the German army by fighting against it, not by giving in. You find out the strength of a wind by trying to walk against it, not by lying down. A man who gives in to temptation after five minutes simply does not know what it would have been like an hour later. That is why bad people, in one sense, know very little about badness — they have lived a sheltered life by always giving in. We never find out the strength of the evil impulse inside us until we try to fight it: and Christ, because He was the only man who never yielded to temptation, is also the only man who knows to the full what temptation means — the only complete realist.”
C.S. Lewis

Trenton Lee Stewart
“Why, then, do you think the white player might have done it?”

Reynie considered. He imagined himself moving out his knight only to bring it right back to where it started. Why would he ever do such a thing? At last he said, “Perhaps because he doubted himself.”
Trenton Lee Stewart, The Mysterious Benedict Society

“When I have doubts about my faith, or deep nagging questions that keep me up at night, I don’t have the luxury of finding “my truth” because I am committed to the truth. I want to know what is real. I want my worldview (the lens through which I see the world) to line up with reality. God either exists, or he doesn’t. The Bible is his Word, or it’s not. Jesus was raised from the dead, or he wasn’t. Christianity is true, or it isn’t. There is no “my truth” when it comes to God.”
Alisa Childers, Another Gospel?: A Lifelong Christian Seeks Truth in Response to Progressive Christianity

G.K. Chesterton
“You've got to understand one of the tricks of the modern mind, a tendency that most people obey without noticing it. In the village or suburb outside there's an inn with the sign of St. George and the Dragon. Now suppose I went about telling everybody that this was only a corruption of King George and the Dragoon. Scores of people would believe it, without any inquiry, from a vague feeling that it's probable because it's prosaic. It turns something romantic and legendary into something recent and ordinary. And that somehow makes it sound rational, though it is unsupported by reason. Of course some people would have the sense to remember having seen St. George in old Italian pictures and French romances, but a good many wouldn't think about it at all. They would just swallow the skepticism because it was skepticism. Modern intelligence won't accept anything on authority. But it will accept anything without authority. That's exactly what has happened here.”
G.K. Chesterton, The Man Who Knew Too Much

Charlotte Brontë
“I have for the first time found what I can truly love–I have found you. You are my sympathy–my better self–my good angel–I am bound to you with a strong attachment. I think you good, gifted, lovely: a fervent, a solemn passion is conceived in my heart; it leans to you, draws you to my centre and spring of life, wrap my existence about you–and, kindling in pure, powerful flame, fuses you and me in one.”
Charlotte Bronte, Jane Eyre
