DONALD GLOVER WAS born and raised in Central Illinois. He earned his BA in English at Eastern Illinois University. It was during these years as an undergrad that he developed an interest in music, literature, and history--as a result of mere happenstance. Researching to complete a writing assignment, he discovered that his professor for the course had written extensively about Langston Hughes and the Harlem Renaissance. The experience gave him both direction and motivation.
Later, Glover's affinity for these subjects influenced him to choose a career in teaching. In his capacity as an English instructor, he has spent nearly three decades promoting cultural awareness through the arts, literature, and history.

"From the Gold Standard to the Golden Rule"

As we end Jazz Appreciation Month, I have thought about why I am enamored with the art form. One reason is that jazz has given me a feeling akin to being in love. Yet what makes it more remarkable is the sense of excellence I derive from it -- those moments when a note, a phrasing, or a riff, says this song aspires for legendary status and near permanence. It is high art maintained by curators who Read more of this blog post »

Donald Glover Then there was the slow but steady erosion of the adult world's influence... You got me started. Now I have you to blame for wanting to reread the book next week.

Donald Glover I find something new each time. When I was in college -- I will not disclose how many years ago -- a classmate mentioned a Sigmund Freud connection, and I found myself reading about the id (Jack), the ego (Ralph), and the superego (Piggy). Next, I noted totalitarianism vs democracy. Then there was Ralphs empathy, his concern for Piggy, Sam n' Eric, and Simon. Next, I noted Golding's tendency to dehumanize the boys -- until they were nothing but savages. He subtly eliminated the use of the character's names... You get the point. Thanks for the trip down Amnesia Lane in the town of Nerdville.

Cece ❀Rants, Raves &Reviews❀ Hiya, thanks for friend request. Lord of Flies, I agree Ralph's character definitely has greater overarching meaning of democracy that I can appreciate more now that I didn't first understand haha. Do you enjoy rereading it to find new themes everytime? Excited to chat up some bookish things with ya !! (✿◠‿◠)
