Reformation-era England piqued my interest because my family has both Catholic and Protestant roots--and never were those tensions more keenly felt than at that volatile time when Protestants wanted to be respected and Catholics felt their religion was threatened.

I probably enjoyed most the research that led me to passionate hearts on both sides of the conflicts: those who were willing to fight for what they believed in even if there were others who believed just as strongly the exact opposite things! I hope I highlight that well in Diamonds. :)(less)

5 Books to Read if You’re Thinking About Homeschooling

This fall my oldest is “starting” kindergarten — although does homeschooling have a first day, really? In preparation of becoming a second-generation homeschooler, I did what I do best: I read a dozen good books on the subject.

“I pressed my hands into my eyes and breathed deeply, trying to stifle the memories. But they bled through. As if there had always been cracks in me meant for her -- then, when we had finally found each other, her soul somehow was broken in all the right places so that she fit inside me.”
Rachelle Rea Cobb, The Sound of Silver

“That smile I loved fled. 'I went there to surrender you.'

I bent to see her face more clearly. 'Surrender me?'

'To God. I felt His call to give Him all. Of me. My whole heart. And we both know you are my whole heart, so that meant I must give Him you.”
