Rowan is an agender, asexual, and aromantic speculative fiction author and freelance editor. As a child, they dreamily dictated stories to adults and sat at their family's old typewriter, pounding at the keys to enjoy the sensation of them beneath their fingers. They've never lost that sense of wonder. Rowan aims to craft stories that evoke ideas, create experiences, and leave behind lingering emotions.

Aside from writing, they find joy in game design, heavy music, fiction podcasts, technology, and animals. They currently room with three cats and a collie dog, who keep them company during their daily battles with the blank page. As a night person, the majority of their novels emerge under moonlight. They write from a big, lakeside house on a

I haven't released any other novels, yet (though I do have a couple chapters of a serial novel, called Living Ageless, up for free reading on sites like Jukepop Serials and Wattpad), but I am currently working on a couple more, and hope to have them out later this year or early 2016. Thanks again for the support, and I hope you enjoy the book!

First drafts are never perfect, so I keep in mind that if I can just jot down the bones of the scene or section I'm having trouble with, then I can move on and come back to it later. This is also one of the reasons I tend to work on more than one project at a time - if I'm struggling with one, I might focus on another for a few days, for a bit of mental fresh air.

If it is more than just one scene or one project that I'm struggling with, I will take a short break from the book, or from writing in general. Short is the key word, though. I find that taking too long of a break only disconnects me from the story and makes it worse.(less)

Halloween Updates

Hello bookworms! Apologies for the recent hush. In the last couple of months, my freelance business has taken off more than I could’ve imagined—I’ve been editing books for indie authors, writing short stories, drafting Night Plague’s sequel, reading submissions for All Worlds Wayfarer, and coding interactive fiction games. There are so many projects I can’t wait to share with you, but for now, let

Nothing But Readi...: A Tangle of Gold 1582 287 Aug 11, 2019 02:32AM
Carl Sagan
“What an astonishing thing a book is. It's a flat object made from a tree with flexible parts on which are imprinted lots of funny dark squiggles. But one glance at it and you're inside the mind of another person, maybe somebody dead for thousands of years. Across the millennia, an author is speaking clearly and silently inside your head, directly to you. Writing is perhaps the greatest of human inventions, binding together people who never knew each other, citizens of distant epochs. Books break the shackles of time. A book is proof that humans are capable of working magic."

[Cosmos, Part 11: The Persistence of Memory (1980)]”
