John Peel is the author of Doctor Who books and comic strips. Notably, he wrote the first original Doctor Who novel, Timewyrm: Genesys, to launch the Virgin New Adventures line. In the early 1990s he was commissioned by Target Books to write novelisations of several key Terry Nation Dalek stories of the 1960s after the rights were finally worked out. He later wrote several more original Daleks novels.

He has the distinction of being one of only three authors credited on a Target novelisation who had not either written a story for the TV series or been a part of the production team (the others were Nigel Robinson and Alison Bingeman).

I don't have any spare copies of that one myself, so I can't sell you one. I usually buy from Abebooks.com, but you're right - those prices are crazy!(less)

Where Do You Get Your Ideas?

One question authors invariably get asked is: where do you get your ideas from? It's a difficult question to answer sometimes, because at times we don't know where the ideas come from. They seem to creep uninvited into our heads and won't go away until we write them down.

But sometimes, however, we know exactly where our ideas come from. I've just sold a short story called "Now Departing", and I c Read more of this blog post »

The author is an advocate of the Montessori teaching system. It seems to me that this only works if you have unlimited time, space and money, and thus is out of the reach of most parents. Some of her ideas are also rather dangerous, like allowing an ...more

“There's always the possibility that you're going to come across a record that transforms your life. And it happens weekly. It's like a leaf on the stream. There are little currents and eddies and sticks lying in the water that nudge you in a slightly different direction. And then you break loose and carry on down the current. There's nothing that actually stops you and lifts you out of the water and puts you on the bank but there are diversions and distractions and alarums and excursions which is what makes life interesting really. It's fantastic.”
