LIFE IS NOT A BED OF ROSES (PART-8)

On the other hand, Radhika soon started facing realities of life. She felt like she needed to work. She told this to Manpreet.

He was jobless. Only source of income was his father’s pay which was not enough for easy-going-life of 4 people. Unwantedly, Manpreet allowed Radhika to give her resume to a nearby private school. They selected her and provide her with a job of English teacher. Pay was good. This helped them led their life more comfortably. At least now there was surety of food!!

Manpreet was also applying for jobs but was not getting any.

As earlier people stated him as inept person who spoiled a girl’s life, now they started observing him as clumsy person who was incapable to do anything in life and who was living on money earned by his wife. It hurts his male ego. He never wanted to call as incapable, clumsy and inept.

Whenever and wherever he went, lewd comments followed him. These were eating him from inside. He wasn’t able to face all this. He felt broke.

After applying everywhere and failing to get any job. He was fully frustrated from his life. Every time he saw Radhika, it made him feel more ashamed and guilty. Radhika had never complained him about any difficulties she was facing living with them but he was mature enough to judge her life. It sucks. He knew that Radhika’s life had become hell, From A.C. to fan, from car to on-feet, from pizza-burger to simple chapattis, from cozy bed to simple hard bed and moreover, access-to-anything-of-the-world to devoid-of-everything. He knew everything and these things were bothering him from inside. He never wanted to put her in such situations but she never understood his concern. Even when he tried to make her understood all this.

Now he started finding her in tension of earning money every time. She started giving tuitions too. She earned money from tuitions. But what about Manpreet?? He was still jobless. He was annoyed and pissed off from his life. Regular commenting from others made him more annoyed. Even progress made by Radhika started pinching him somewhere because he was doing nothing to contribute to her family. He started feeling like they were using her.

So, till when it could go like this?

One fine morning, when Radhika woke up for getting ready for school, she found something odd. She looked at her bed. Yes, there was something missing-Manpreet. She went outside of her room to check out him but no, he was nowhere. He told about this to her in-laws. They got worried. They checked all around but he was not anywhere.

They were finding him from last few hours. Then one person from village informed Manpreet’s family that police found one person hanged on old banyan tree on the outskirts of the village. They took that dead body with them in police station. His whole family went to check out there about that hoping it must not be him.

But who can ever avoid the things which have to happen?

So, this thing which shouldn’t happen happened. They reached there. Dead body was lying on the table inside police station. It was covered with white cloth. Radhika showed some guts and removed the cloth. The thing which she never wanted to see was in front of her eyes. Yes! It was dead body of Manpreet. There was white cotton filled in the nose holes of his dead body. There were wounds on his neck. She understood everything that had happened. She was strong enough to face the realities of life. She was the girl who left everything just to be with Manpreet. But now? Manpreet left her that too forever.

Tears started flowing from her eyes. Even she didn’t want to cry but she couldn’t control even. She cried for few minutes as much as she could… as much as loud she could… with as much as pain she could. Then she cleaned her eyes, managed to stand properly. She said looking at Manpreet’s face “I thought you had fear to live in hard times… but no… you had fear to live. By doing this, you showed me how coward you were. You just did it because people said you something. Dear, Life is not a bed of roses. One has to face all this to live in this cruel world. It is never a nice place. What you think, people don’t pass lewd comments on me?? No, they do. I just never give damn about what they say. Because only thing matters for me was what you thought. Now, what can I say, other than letting you go forever?

After this they took Manpreet’s corpse with them and she gave the last light on earth to his dead body. In front of Radhika’s eyes, love of her life turn into ashes, within few minutes’ Life is so unpredictable. Everyone went home but she kept standing there. She couldn’t believe it had happened. But, she has to face all this. May be it was written in her fate or maybe it was her bad luck. She thought about her parents again. Again tears started flowing from her eyes. She was missing them like hell. It should happen or it should not, she was answerless. She thought for a while and said to herself “May be it was my mistake.”

She never thought it even in her wildest dreams but it happened. He was gone, forever.
