[close] Are you living with a disability, or know someone who is? Do you or someone you love struggle with a mental health condition like anxiety, schizophrenia, depression, or Asperger's syndrome? Or are you a student or professional in the field of disability or mental health? Then this book club might be for you! I'm hoping to use this Goodreads group as a public forum for discussions around the issues of disability, marginalization, freedom and dissent. In my opinion, issues of disability are intimately connected to the preservation of the social freedoms we all enjoy, as well as our continuing prosperity. If we could get the conversation around disability (physical, emotional and mental) right, many of the social problems we grapple with as a society would vanish. In this group, we'll read first-person narratives of disability and dissent, classics in the areas of political philosophy and metaphysics, and books on current and historical events. Particularly of interest are Western political philosophers from the 18th century onward, narratives of resistance (both fiction and nonfiction), comparative religion, and historical books about the Nazis. Here in group we share knowledge, experience, and books that help cope adhd life. Trust yourself. Getting treatment and learning ways to manage ADHD can help. Most of us learn to adapt. And adults with ADHD can develop their personal strengths and find success.
