5. Plains-Wanderer




Scientific name: Pedionomus torquatus
Type of animal: Bird
Animal family: Pedionomidae
Conservation status: Endangered

The plains-wanderer is a partridge-like bird found in the grasslands of central and eastern Australia. The species is up to 19 cm / 7.48 in. in length and has a mottled brown / black plumage. The female has a black collar, and is larger than the male.

The plains wanderer is a poor flyer and rarely takes to the air, even when fleeing from danger.
The male plains-wanderer spends more time incubating the eggs and taking care of the young than the female.

Due to its ground-nesting habits and poor flying ability, the plains-wanderer makes easy prey for the red fox and other non-native species. This, and the conversion of its natural grassland habitat into farmland, has caused the plains-wanderer to become endangered.

The Ford Torino is an automobile that was produced by Ford for the North American market between 1968 and 1976. It was a competitor in the intermediate market segment. The car was named after the city of Turin (Torino, in Italian), considered "the Italian Detroit". The Torino was initially an upscale variation of the intermediate sized Ford Fairlane with a similar approach to the Ford LTD being the upscale version of the Ford Galaxie. Ford also chose the Torino as the base for its NASCAR entrants, and it has a successful racing heritage.

Cutting is a western-style equestrian competition in which a horse and rider work together before a judge or panel of judges to demonstrate the horse's athleticism and ability to handle cattle. Competitive cutting horses are well-trained and conditioned athletes with skills honed to constrain the movement of a cow and prevent it from returning to the herd. Such horses are able to stop and turn instantaneously, in sync with a cow's every move.

A Little Romance




A Little Romance is the thirteenth episode of The Golden Girls and the thirteenth episode overall. Directed by Terry Hughes and written by Mort Nathan and Barry Fanaro, the episode premiered on NBC-TV on December 14th, 1985.


Sophia is packing to visit her son Phil's family in Brooklyn, as her grandson is graduating from animal grooming school. She is filling her one suitcase with pasta sauce, complaining to Dorothy that Phil's wife Angela doesn't cook. Dorothy reminds her that Angela doesn't cook because she has a job, and Sophia exclaims that she's a welder. Blanche announces that she's begun volunteering as a CPR dummy to get dates. Rose appears all dressed up for another date with her boyfriend, Dr. Jonathan Newman from the counseling center, and while she is excited, she doesn't tell the ladies everything, offering to take Sophia to the airport instead.
The next night, Blanche surprises Rose by inviting Jonathan over for dinner, much to Rose's annoyance, and passes it off as thanking him for helping decode her recurring dreams. When Dorothy goes to answer the door, she is greeted by a little person who introduces himself as Dr. Jonathan Newman. Though Dorothy quickly gets over her shock, Blanche believes that Rose called Jonathan over as a joke to get back at her for dinner. Upon learning she's made a mistake, Blanche retreats to the kitchen in embarrassment. Dorothy tells her to be less self-conscious for the sake of the dinner, and Blanche tries to put a stiff upper lip in the name of Southern hospitality. She then immediately puts her foot in her mouth by serving shrimp as an appetizer.

After the dinner, Jonathan helps Blanche understand that he's okay with people making mistakes he's happy with who he is. However while he and Rose go back to the lanai, Sophia arrives early and reveals her grandson flunked out of school. Dorothy assumes the worst when Jonathan and Rose come back from the lanai. But in an uncharacteristic display of politeness, Sophia introduces herself to Jonathan and asks him to excuse her for not staying, as she's rather tired and would like to lay down. Dorothy takes Sophia's luggage back to her room with her, and Sophia asks if Jonathan is a little person when they're out of earshot. Dorothy replies that he is, and Sophia is relieved as she was worried she was having another stroke.

When Jonathan leaves, Rose tells the girls she thinks he's going to propose, but she doesn't know what to do due to their height difference. With her friends' advice leaving her more confused than ever, Rose decides to sleep on it. She has a dream where she is woken up on the day of her and Jonathan's wedding, with Sophia officiating the ceremony. Despite being minutes away from matrimony and dressed up in her wedding gown, Rose is still unsure of what to do. To convince Rose to get up, the ladies reveal her father, who has become a little person. Rose's father tells her that he's only come as a little person to prove a point -- only Rose's heart can tell her what to do. The ladies try to get psychic Jeane Dixon to help, but she is useless as they are. Jonathan then arrives and convinces her that love will help them no matter what.
Rose and Jonathan arrive for their date at a French restaurant -- instead of proposing, however, Jonathan admits he's breaking up with her. Rose tries to convince Jonathan that she wouldn't be ashamed of marrying him, but Jonathan reveals that he comes from a very conservative Jewish family, and he can't see someone who isn't Jewish. Rose is extremely upset, but after she and Jonathan make each other laugh, they agree to remain friends.

30. River Shark


Thought to be extinct until the end of the 20th century, little is known about this species of shark. Their populations were discovered in Borneo and Northern Australia, and they face a critically endangered status. The River Shark uses the Ganges River as nursery grounds and the birthplace of many Ganges shark offspring, however the population has been severely diminished owing to a long history of fishing and other pollution-related issues in the Northern Arabian Sea. Their placement in connection to costal marine waters indicates that they are usually born around October.

18. Bantayan Island, Cebu





Bantayan Island is a paradise dream destination located off the coast of northern Cebu. It is known for its white sand beach and pristine waters great for swimming, island-hopping, cliff diving, and kayaking. It is reminiscent of the world famous Boracay Island but without the crowd and over-commercialism. The island boasts of several beaches and two of the most popular are Paradise Beach and Kota Beach. Both located in the town of Santa Fe, the beaches are blessed with fine white sand and captivating water. Kota Beach attracts more tourists as it has a sandbar while Paradise Beach is less crowded as it is located in a secluded part of the island.


Aside from being a breathtaking tourist destination, Bantayan Island is also a fishing community. So if you are dreaming of feasting on fresh seafood without damaging your pocket, make the island your next travel destination.

After Lucy and Ethel are snubbed by their husbands at a party over the sophisticated Eve Whitney, the girls decide to take a lesson from Eve and enroll in Phoebe Emerson's Charm School. They primp and practice all week, transforming themselves into elegant and refined ladies. Fred and Ricky are shocked when they see their wives' new look, so the fellas decide to show their partners how asinine they look by dressing in frilly, old-fashioned attire. All of them decide to go back to their usual selves and they proceed in messing up everyone's hairdo. Well, everyone's hair except Fred's, of course.

Fun Fact-The slinky black charm school dress Lucy wears will be worn again when she tries to "vamp" Cousin Ernie as the "wicked city woman."

Strawberry Shortcake




Shortcake generally refers to a dessert with a crumbly scone like texture. There is multiple variations of shortcake most of which are usually served with fruit and cream, one of the most popular being strawberry shortcake which is typically served with whipped cream. Other variations common in the UK are Blackberry & clotted cream shortcake, and Lemon Berry Shortcake, which is served with lemon curd in replace of cream.

Shortcake is typically made with flour, sugar, baking powder or soda, salt, butter, milk or cream, and sometimes eggs. The dry ingredients are blended, and then the butter is cut in until the mixture resembles cornmeal. The liquid ingredients are then mixed in just until moistened, resulting in a shortened dough. The dough is then dropped in spoonfuls onto a baking sheet, rolled and cut like baking powder biscuits, or poured into a cake pan, depending on how wet the dough is and the baker's preferences. Then it is baked at a relatively high temperature until set.
Strawberry shortcake is a widely known dessert made with shortcake. Sliced strawberries are mixed with sugar and allowed to sit an hour or so, until the strawberries have surrendered a great deal of their juices. The shortcakes are split and the bottoms are covered with a layer of strawberries, juice, and whipped cream, typically flavored with sugar and vanilla. The top is replaced, and more strawberries and whipped cream are added onto the top. Some convenience versions of shortcake are not made with a shortcake (i.e. biscuit) at all, but instead use a base of sponge cake or sometimes a corn muffin.

Though strawberry is the most widely known shortcake dessert, peach shortcake, blueberry shortcake, chocolate shortcake and other similar desserts are made along similar lines.In some recipes the shortcake itself is flavored; coconut is one addition.
