This is a list of books people of all races should read and enjoy. It features books about some of the greatest accomplishments made by White people as well as other people throughout history towards the advancement of civilization.
This list is a spin-off of the list here:
https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/1...
Many people found that list pretty racist, as that list is populated mostly with books portraying White people in a negative light. This list's aim is to offer another, more accurate picture of the contributions made by all races, because keeping an open mind to other point-of-views is something any intellectually curious reader should do.

Nice job, Laurie. A continuous search for - and openness to - the truth is desperately needed, more than ever, it seems, these days.
Laurie wrote: "Thank you Joel, this is a much needed list.I flagged the other site asking that the name be changed but I see nothing has changed..."
I also reported that list a while ago, but nothing was done. I think this list is the best way to respond. Personally, I don't believe in censorship, and wouldn't want to see that list shut down, but it's what they (the SJWs) would do to a list they disagree with.
I agree, it was only the title I had a problem with - not the list.Everyone was polite to the SJW when suggesting a name change too.
Have a great weekend Joel :D

You say you only had a problem with the title of the list yet this list is exactly the same with the addition of one word.
Can you spell HYPOCRISY?
None of you really had a problem with the title of the list, evidenced by your support for the creator of this list.
That creator clearly stated above, referring to the list you all found so offensive "Many people found that list pretty racist, as that list is populated mostly with books portraying White people in a negative light."
So is it the title of the list that you find racially insensitive and offensive or as the creator of this list suggests it's the content which you find offensive and racist?

sound ignorantly familiar Joel???
Klinton wrote: "Joel wrote: "Thanks guys, and some good adds!"The title of this book list is offensive, CHANGE IT!
Klinton, please read the list description. In it, I explain that the name of this list is in response to an equally offensive list that was not taken down. I didn't come up with the name, I simply copied it from that other list, and added books that are not as offensive as those on that list.
OMG, Klinton, you're offended!!! How awful!!!Sorry snowflake - go find a safe space. And take all your wussie, pajama boy friends with you.

Lol, your lack of intelligence betrays you, i am in no way offended by the title of this list or the list's contents, you overtly Racist bigoted homophobic ignoramus!
I merely copied a comment of your friend's, that was posted on the list that inspired this one, to show the hypocrisy and irony, which you have again managed to display with your ignorant comment!
Well Done, hitler would be proud

Sorry, Klinton, I'm not going to engage with you in debate. You're clearly not capable of civil rational debate.

Wow a measured reply Joel? On the other list your response was merely to proclaim you are, and i quote, "RAAAACIST!!!!" which is something i obviously already knew through your imaginative alias "P".
1stly the name of the other list is not offensive therefore the name of this list is not offensive, although the intention of the creator most definitely is.
2ndly how, if you are not a racist bigot could you be offended by a book like Assata Shakur's Autobiography? How is that offensive toward non people of colour?
Why are you so offended by other white people wanting to understand the perspective of people of colour?
I do not comprehend, unless tolerance and understanding offend you as much as the concepts of justice and equality!
Joel wrote: Sorry, Klinton, I'm not going to engage with you in debate. You're clearly not capable of civil rational debate. Really Joel, your last response to me was to proclaim your stance on issues of race and i quote, message 224: by Joel 12 hours, 11 min ago "RAAAACIST!!!!"
Yet i am the one not capable of civil rational debate?????
Thats a RAAAACISTS logic, comparable with hitler and fascist Spain!
As a non-white myself, I completely support this list, both for it's inherent value and for the relief it offers to that other list that is racist against whites. Also, I have reviewed Klinton's book list and find that it is exclusively a set of books books that look for white racists behind every bush and tree.

Thanks Athens!
Why does this list have to have a race angle? If it's for books about how anyone of any race has advanced human progress, why not title the list to reflect that?I wanna know--which books on the other list portray white people in a negative light? Indicting systems of oppression that benefit one race over all others is not the same as indicting that one race. A subtle but important distinction.
There's also the bit where, yeah, white people haven't always been the good guys. And you seem to be hell bent on not having to confront that reality. But if you drown out all the voices saying, "Hey, what if we stopped being bad guys?" how do you think it's ever going to change?
A challenge (that can easily go both ways): For every book you read from the one list, read one from the other.
If you want to ease into the other list, try The Spirit Catches You and You Fall Down. It's the story of Hmong refugee parents and white doctors all trying their very best to care for an epileptic child, and why the culture clash made that difficult. It's very responsible journalism, and highlights how everyone in the story really tried to do good, even if it didn't always work out.
And I will purchase a book from this list, #87 "The Age of Wonder" because I recently read Frankenstein for the first time and loved it, so I find the subject of this book (the relationship between Romanticism and the development of modern science) very intriguing.
Request for clarification: The description asks for books about some of humanity's greatest accomplishments. If a work itself is a great accomplishment (e.g. a work of philosophy) can it be included? Or, if a work of fiction is about one of humanity's greatest accomplishments, could we add that? I personally think adding works of fiction that we consider one of humanity's greatest accomplishments (Beowulf? The Princess Diaries?) could get really out of hand, and not in the spirit of the list, but as people are generally single-mindedly able to justify believing whatever they want, some specificity may be in order. If someone could clarify, and possibly add said clarifications to the list description, I would appreciate it!
Emma wrote: "Request for clarification: The description asks for books about some of humanity's greatest accomplishments. Books that are themselves accomplishments would get out of hand.
Emma wrote: "A challenge (that can easily go both ways): For every book you read from the one list, read one from the other...."Good idea. From the other list, I'll choose #132: Black Rednecks and White Liberals by Thomas Sowell.
