message 1: by William (new)

William Compared to some of the other selections American Psycho is not that gory. I don't have any idea how Harry Potter got on here!

message 2: by Melissa (new)

Melissa Yeah, I am LMAO at Harry Potter being on there....0.o

message 3: by Morgan (new)

Morgan F Harry Potter being up there made me laugh, which is unfortunate, because I accidentally spit out my gum and it landed on the floor.

message 4: by Annie (new)

Annie Granger Yes, Harry Potter on this list seems quite ridiculous.

That is a crying shame. Everyone knows the 30 second rule doesn't apply to A.B.C. gum. A moment of silence for the gum, everyone, please!

message 6: by Morgan (new)

Morgan F Thanks. I'm sure my deceased gum would appreciate it.

It was Big Red too.

message 7: by Amanda (new)

Amanda Why is Harry Potter on this list lol.

message 8: by Ashley (new)

Ashley I love this! I am making my shopping list now...

message 10: by Megan (new)

Megan Pearson Snuff? Seriously? Unless you find sex to be gorey then I have no clue why that is on there. There is ONE slightly gorey scene but hardly goriest

message 11: by Belial (new)

Belial As above, so below! Harry Potter....lol

what the hell is harry potter doing on this list?
Wow what a list of scary books Im so excited!!!! I hope the books are still available to buy! thanks to whoever started this list. a
nother gory book i would like to add to the list would be funland by Richard laymon I really enjoyed it!

message 14: by [deleted user] (new)

read a book called "killer fiction" by GJ Schaefer and try to beat it. you cant.

message 15: by James (new)

James goy i am currently reading catching fire.other than a scene wear a guy is wiped it is not gory, but i am half way finished.

message 16: by Marcyr. (new)

Marcyr. I am very excited to read many of these books. Thankyou for making this list. I agree that Snuff is gory. So sick as a matter ofinshf fact that I couldn't finish it. I am writing this with my phone abd having issues. please forgive misspellibgs and poor grammer. American psycho was the sivkeat book ever, no doubt, but unlike Snuff the story kept me going until the end. I suppose I prefer the "perverse" genre. Books are the only means of exploring those concepts safely in my opinion. Would you care to create a "sick/perverse" list for me? That would be great. Pyre suggestions would be welcom as well. I have read all Palahniuk and Bret Easton Ellis. Has anyone ever heard of Carlton Mellick III? I can never find him in any book stores. i have an ereader now but am poor so often use only library ot pub domain or "shared" . Thabks again for the list!

message 17: by Lola (new)

Lola Mark WHY IS THE HUNGER GAMES ON HERE?!?!?

message 18: by Megan (last edited Nov 25, 2012 10:23PM) (new)

Megan Pearson How is snuff gory? I can't possibly understand why everyone is flipping out about how gory it was.

Just because you DISLIKE a book and it has dirty parts does not make it gory. The book is dirty(both sexual and just literally dirty) yes but gore?

Gore is defined as "Blood that has been shed, esp. as a result of violence." not just anything that's graphic or dirty.

A graphic book? Yes but again most of the books on this list assume that gore is the definition of anything graphic but it's not. Rename this as being a list of graphic books and I would agree snuff deserves to be close to the top but for the 100th time graphic does not mean gory. Gore is specifically relating to large amounts of blood/violence

message 19: by Marcyr. (new)

Marcyr. Yes indeed. I used the word wrong. I'll just say sick and perverse and violent instead. And a terrible book unfortunately. Chuck is one of my faves but Snuff was an epic failure.

message 20: by Dana (new)

Dana (Danothy Grimm) Kisor Great list. Thanks - I have some reading to do...

message 21: by Anna (Bananas) (last edited Mar 03, 2013 10:08PM) (new)

Anna (Bananas) Someone needs to audit this list. Many of the books aren't gory at all. Some of the selections are downright retarded.

message 22: by [deleted user] (new)

Extremely strange list with a lot of books that aren't very gory at all.

message 23: by Samantha (new)

Samantha Cheney William wrote: "Compared to some of the other selections American Psycho is not that gory. I don't have any idea how Harry Potter got on here!"

I thought the same thing! Lol

message 24: by Megan (new)

Megan Pearson Marcyr. wrote: "Yes indeed. I used the word wrong. I'll just say sick and perverse and violent instead. And a terrible book unfortunately. Chuck is one of my faves but Snuff was an epic failure."

While not one of his best book epic failure is a stretch. It's well written, an interesting enough story, solid characters. Like most of his books though just not for everyone

message 25: by Álvaro (new)

Álvaro Carrasquel Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (Harry Potter, #3)? What the hell?

message 26: by David (new)

David Church wow...this list shows me a lot of people haven't read Edward Lee or Wrath James White.

message 28: by N.B. (new)

N.B. I recently read Perfume by Patrick Suskind, which I thought was a little gory (didn't add that here though). But then I read The Omitted Place by Noelle Blanche, and that is incredibly gory and very graphic too! Thoroughly enjoyed them both! :)

message 29: by Francesca (new)

Francesca Harry Potter and the Hunger Games should not be so high up this list. Personally, I wouldn't put them on here at all but if they are, or must be, on here then they should at least be at the bottom of the list. How they can be above some of the other books on here is beyond me!

message 30: by JoyToy (new)

JoyToy There should really be a way to add a -1 vote as a way to deal with trolls on this public lists >.>

message 31: by Jarod Barbee (new)

Jarod Barbee I don't know who made this list, but the inclusion of Harry Potter pretty much makes it an irrelevant crock of shit.

message 32: by Fefs (new)

Fefs Messina I don't think most people know what gore is at all judging by this list...

message 33: by Tony (new)

Tony The same book is at positions 35 and 43, i.e. "The Cruise"

message 34: by Blow Pop (last edited Dec 07, 2016 12:06AM) (new)

Blow Pop I'm giggling at some of the true crime books on here while telling my computer screen OFC they have gore in them.

In Cold Blood was *LITERALLY* about murders that happened. You can't write a GOOD and COMPREHENSIVE book about a murder that shook the nation for the time period it happened in without including the quite literal gory details about it even if I seriously dislike Capote and how he wound up being able to get all the inside scoop and be able to write the book in the first place but that's neither here nor there.

Snuff has the ONE scene at the end that can *KIND* of be called gore but not really because it's not. Haunted would be the better book if you want gore from what I remember (and yes I did notice that it is on the list). Authors in a house for a "writing retreat" who panic and start resorting to cannibalism and paranoia. Battle Royale has some pretty gory scenes so I'll allow that. But THG? HP? 1984? Seriously? 1984? What's next? Flowers for Algernon and Of Mice and Men? I feel like 1984 being on this list that we read 2 different books. I could make an argument for it being a horror book yes. But not gore. It's on par with FfA/OM&M/Snuff IMO. And John Dies at the End? Dude takes drugs, sees things, shit goes to hell, I fell asleep so many times through that book. Had there been gore it might have actually caught my attention.

American Psycho I could make a better argument for it to be on a list of being a gory book than for it not to be on a list of gory books.

Shakespeare isn't gore. That I had to massively laugh at. I've read modern day romance novels that are more gory than Shakespeare that I *STILL* wouldn't put on this list (ok fine *technically* paranormal side of the romance genre for some of them and mystery side for others and not cozy mystery but like murder mystery types where authors forgot they were writing a mystery and wrote a romance with a mystery thrown in though I do read those from time to time too.......just clarifying I wasn't referring to them at this point.).

message 35: by Samantha (new)

Samantha Faye Wow, a lot to read! One life surely isn't enough!

message 36: by Sherrelle (new)

Sherrelle Megan wrote: "Snuff? Seriously? Unless you find sex to be gorey then I have no clue why that is on there. There is ONE slightly gorey scene but hardly goriest"

I know this is an old comment, but she was fucked by an extreme amount of men in one sitting and died halfway through. THAT itself is gory as hell, even if the details weren't.

message 37: by Sherrelle (last edited Nov 11, 2021 01:17PM) (new)

Sherrelle Megan wrote: "How is snuff gory? I can't possibly understand why everyone is flipping out about how gory it was.

"Large amounts of violence" does one woman being fucked continuously by an obscene amount of men to the point of death not constitute as a large amount of violence?
