The Panty Thief of Bridgeport is a page turner, it gets you hooked after the third chapter. But there is a rather large weak middle part, around page 100 that I found a bit slow. Other than that it is really a great book. As of right now I'm voting for it as Best Book of 2013 because when its good, its really good. Take away that one slow section and it would be incredibly good!
I think that some books from this list are overrated. Also, I was surprised about how many dystopian, erotica, romance, mystery, suspense books were here!
there seemed to be a lot of sex books on this list right that is kinda weird. I guess 2013 was a good year for erotica. Who woulda thought?
Over 70 of the top 100 are from series. Have authors lost the skill to write with economy - or are they merely cashing in on the chance to sell more books by serialising their storylines? I think this phenomenon fits rather snugly (or smugly?) with the trend towards getting absolutely everything we want (in the First World). Just finished a book, and wish you could get more of that author / character / storyline? Of course you can - there's a sequel!
This list really makes me sad. What happened to literary pieces of work? Don't people read those anymore?

Wanda wrote: "I think this list is ridiculous! They're all Romance novels."It's just the genre of 2013
This is not a "best" list, this a "most-copies-sold".Very disappointing for anyone looking for something new and excellent to read (I'm sure some of them are good, but certainly not all).
And, yes, in fact, many people (myself among them) read all the prize-winning books. I was just looking for more beyond that.
Maybe this list needs to be renamed.

And, y..."
Maybe they sold a lot of copies because they were good. That's usually how things work.
Anyone looking for a slightly more literary list of good new fiction might prefer this: http://www.goodreads.com/list/show/30520.Man_Booker_Prize_Eligible_2013
Susanna wrote: "You counted the author's sex through 18 pages? Wow."Sorry maybe I should clarify, I mean in the top 100. But I think if I checked it would be just as high through the 18 pages. I just wonder why ?
Walter: Because women are awesome writers. This list seems highly skewed towards romance novels and series books right now--maybe because those are the ones people have been waiting for, the ones they read as soon as they're published? Right now the top book that's not part of a series is number 73. I wonder how it will shake out as the year goes on.
Seriously, people, lists are public. If you don't like the books on this list, vote for different ones.
First Night of Summer A must read psychological thriller/ mystery. Disturbing and relevant. Not for the faint of heart. I found it to be a touching story where good triumphs over evil. Great ending!
There are other genres; just further down.Romance makes up a large segment of the publication market.
Not a great year for those of us who see a hashtag and a number as a count against reading a particular book, hmmm?
There are non-series books on here, but not on page 1, I think... I've actually had a pretty good reading year, though!
April wrote: "Wow. This list makes me sad."I agree...I'm disappointed. I was looking for quality literature. Not 50 Shades knock-offs. What happened this year?
The amount of erotica in this list is quite sad, I'm looking for ideas for things to read but most of the 1st page is erotica... :(
I'd like to add THE AWAKENING by Lois Scott. This, too, is a love story. One that continues on after death.
Wanda wrote: "I think this list is ridiculous! They're all Romance novels."Romance? Not quite. Erotica. Non-teen fiction.
I really wonder why books have to be in those genres to be termed "Best Books". You can have wonderful books without any touch of romance, much less entirely consumed by none other than erotica.
Aggravating, huh?
Seems a little skewed towards one genre. Not really a good representation of all books published in 2013. Oh well I guess the times dictate the favorites.
Amber wrote: "This list really makes me sad. What happened to literary pieces of work? Don't people read those anymore?"no, not really. and these are mostly series.. ugh! i only read one of the books on this list. someone needs to post of list of "Best of 2013, not in a series!" :/
This list is unbelievable. These are NOT what I expected to be the BEST BOOKS of 2013.I thought it was the best books of 2013 but it turned out to be the.. the... I GOT NOTHING. But this list ignored the REAL best books of 2013.
Faith in this generation, dwindled.

No, it's not misogyny, it's just an observation. There has to be a pattern there somewhere. (I'm glad so many more women buy books than men - we need the market!)
