As an adult with a disability and a couple of chronic illnesses interested in becoming a parent, I'm interested in how parents' illnesses and disabilities and issues affect the way they parent and on how they affect the kids.
This list is intended to include books by adults who develop disabilities and/or major or chronic illnesses either before become parents or while their children are children, as well as books written by people whose parents are disabled, that include something about how it affected them.

For the purposes of this list, alcoholism and drug addiction don't count as disabilities and ADHD, autism, and deafness count especially if they are presented as disabilities in the book.

Georgina Warren I'm really glad to find this list! Somehow it is easier to find books about healthy parents raising children with disabilities or a chronic medical condition. It is important to show that there are many parents with disabilities raising kids too!

Other times when I do see books featuring parents with disabilities, they are usually elder parents or grandparents, and their children are already grown up. It just reinforces misconceptions that people with disabilities are not capable of managing a life balance between taking care of their medical needs and their children's needs.
