If you don't see any you recognize--check some of them out. Amanda Hocking, Imogen Rose, Susan Bischoff, Maria Rachel Hooley--to name a few. I enjoyed all the books by these authors.
I've read Susan Bischoff and right now I'm reading Amanda Hocking. There are a lot of really talented self published authors out there. I can't wait to find new authors to read. :D
I agree--Amanda Hocking's series is great. I read Anachronessence and that's also good. Most of the covers are really awesome in real life--take my work for it. :) I wish more people knew about these books.
Hope wrote: "If you're reading Amanda's MBA series--be sure to check out her Trylle books. They are even better."I liked the Trylle better, too!
I have read all of Amanda Hocking books and they are amazing. Im currently reading S.L. Naoele. She is a definite must read.

Well said.

Ditto what Alex said! How can anyone say these writers aren't authors? That's just nonsense!
JC wrote: "Aren't best sellers. Not even worth reading most of those books. All those spelling errors. Its called spell check damnit. Imts not worth reading something that isn't well known published. Real aut..."You don't have to be a best seller to be a writer. You're the only on here making that claim.
JC wrote: "You mean to be a good writer. Yes they may be writers but honestly anyone can "write" a book these days. These "writers" hardly can even say they wrote a book that's only on kindle format or not ev..."Oh yeah because best seller means great writing. Tyra Banks' book must be great, it's on the best sellers list but it has an average rating of 2.8 right now on Goodreads. That is a very subjective opinion. Look at all these celebrities with Best sellers. Great literature for sure.
JC wrote: "Aren't best sellers. Not even worth reading most of those books. All those spelling errors. Its called spell check damnit. Imts not worth reading something that isn't well known published. Real aut..."Um, to quote you: It's called spell check damnit. Take the log out of your own mouth before you try and yank the stick out of someone else's.
So what if the authors on this list chose to self-publish. That's their right. Your prejudice is blocking you from reading some amazing stories... There are a lot of books currently published by traditional houses that were originally published independently, including several on this list.
And as for your claim that anyone could write a book... Go on, I dare you. Let's see 'anyone' give it a go.
You're being rude, acting ignorant, and just seem to be plain mean. You're obviously not here to be anything but a prat so please just go away. This is somewhere for those of us who actually like and support self-publishers.
JC wrote: "Lmfao. Ya goodreads, the site where all the real bitches come on to give crappy reviews. Right. And anyway those are celebrities not "authors" I'm talking about writers here not an actor or actre..."
I agree with everyone else, you're rude and you have your head up your ass.
Have fun being ignorant. :)
That may be so, but there are also numerous titles produced by trade publishers that are pretty awful too. You can't judge authors on the merit of others, or lack thereof. You have your opinion, and that's fine, but there's no need to be so rude in the way you communicate it.
There's no point in arguing with this person, you guys. Just ignore him/her and the person will finally shut up.
Nothing wrong with self-publishing. As for errors, yes, sometimes self-published have these but I've ran into many traditionally published books that also needed a good editor.
Samantha young is also a fantastic author especially her lunamorte series which centres around werewolves.
Selene wrote: "All the "self published" book I've read are all full of shit! They need to go back to college and leearn some grammar. Its called spellcheck people! Just to point out something Beatrix Potter, Mark Twain, Edgar Allen Poe, Rudyard Kipling and Virginia Wolff where all self published authors. Are you saying these classic and well loved authors are all full of shit as well?
I work for a couple of these self published authors and I have to put in my 2 cents. Some self published authors out there need a qualified editor. I will give you that.
But most (and the ones I work with) are choosing to self-publish because the want creative control as well as keeping all the rights to their work.
It takes a village to write a book, most of the time the authors first book is lacking something.... but isn't that our natural human progression?
A self published author may not have the money or the resources needed to polish a book but some have fantastic stories. They just need to start building their village.
And by the way one of the authors on this list? H.D. Gordon? Blood Warrior sat on amazon's fantasy best seller list next to names like King & Martin. So don't tell me self published authors don't make money because if you do it right, you don't have a publishing house taking most of the profits.
I find it odd that anyone so against self publishing would be commenting on this list. Personally I've never read a self-published novel (I don't think so anyways). I came to this list to check some out. If I felt self-published books or authors were somehow inherently inferior, I would stick to "Best Books of All Time" or something that interested me.
Maybe after I try one of these books I'll decide to stick to books from publishing houses. If so I won't be coming back here. This list is to rank the comparative merits of different self-published books, and I don't see why those indiscriminately disliking self-published books would waste their time here.
Lot's of Peace and Love!
Why are there titles on this list that are not self published, like Richelle Mead's Vampire Academy? I love the book but it was published by one of the Big 6. Is there some way to remove these titles so the real self published books can be more easily noticed?
find it funny how someone can think you cant be self-published and a best seller???E L James (i know its not young adult but its a good example) self published her books and even though she really really could have done with an editor her books are making her a fortune and have encouraged many people who would never have picked up a book before to READ her books and other similar authors. i might not like her books but i respect her as a successful SELF-PUBLISHED author.
also Amanda Hocking (who is on this list) has many great books and when i read them i wouldn't have thought they were self published as they were really good and since reading them i have moved on to other self published authors. yes some are horrible but there are many great writers out there with great stories and no one has even heard of them because people wont give them a chance!
Guardians Book 1: The Girl. I think is self-published probably along with the other 3 in the series

Don't be such a muppet. There are some really great self published authors out there with big followings, and not all the books have spelling mistakes. You can't just say they're all crap. Oh and by the way, your own spelling is absolute crap. It's called spellcheck, remember? Idiot troll.
And just saying, I work at a library with a branch out of over 15 libraries, and we carry a lot of these books. So. Yeah. Money isn't everything, people are checking these out like crazy.
There are way too many books on this list that are not and were not self published... Harry Potter? Really?
Guys! Help me clean this list; which of the books here have never been self-published?Removed so far: Page 1: Tiger Voyage
