Thanks :)
I just joined GoodReads, so I don't really know the etiquette yet of adding and voting on books (still learning). I added some books about a young girl with kidney disease who creates her own imaginary world as a coping mechanism- they are fictional (although based on a true story). Please delete them if I did something incorrect or rude. Thanks! :)
Devin wrote: "Do you know if there is a non-fiction version of this list?"I believe there is--to some extent. There are plenty of books about particular diseases/illnesses/chronic health problems, memoirs written by people who have those health problems, books about various treatments, etc. The list could go on forever. Are you looking for something in particular?
I've been looking for a good list of memoirs about chronic illness, that isn't solely about cancer or mental health. There are plenty of very ablest books and plenty of books about treatments but I've yet to find a good list about the lived experience. **In particular, I'm trying to find a book focused on young adults and on the increased rates of death you encounter as part of a disability community.
Most of the memoirs I'm aware of are written by adults about their experience dealing with their health problems as adults. I don't think I've seen any about young adults with certain health issues.
Hi Devin! The PFA is a fictionalized version of my story with a very severe kidney disease as a 15 to 21-year-old (I'm 23 now). It is technically fiction and written as such, but it is my true story... I even created an imaginary world to help myself cope, just like Anna Grace does, and the stories of the "Underground City" and "Pretend Friend Association" are basically edited versions of what I wrote when I was dealing with medications, uncertainty, and death. So far, "only" Parts One to Six are written and none of them deal with deal too much, but Parts Seven to Twelve will be released through 2016, and they do deal with death. (Anna Grace loses a friend, just like I did.) Like I said, it is fictional- reads more like a "story" than a memoir- but 95% of it is almost exactly what happened. (I think Part Six is the one I've taken the most literary license with- SPOILER: in the book, Anna Grace freaks out and tries to throw away a lot of her writing. I never did that... I handled that situation better than she does. But other than that, everything is more or less as it was. I'm not sure if that's what you are looking for or not, but I hope that helps a little.
does anyone know on a non-fiction book of which a character has fibromyalgia? i have never found one and couldn't find one on this list, though i may have missed one. thankyou! :) :)
This is a list of fiction books. I know there are a handful of nonfiction books with main characters that have fibro. I can't think of any off-hand, but I'll keep an eye out.
I also have been looking for a fiction book about Fibromyalgia and haven't been able to find any. At the top of this list it does say Fibro but none of these books have characters with Fibro.
