I love fantasy. I DON'T LIKE DARK MAGIC/WITCHCRAFT KIND OF STUFF. So this list is for fantasy/Christian allegories that are good, clean, adventurous, thrilling, and have a point to them. They tell a parable. They teach a lesson. Something like that. Non-Christian books can be added IF they are clean and without dark magic, witchcraft, weird stuff like that.
Like, DO NOT add any of the Twilight series. They take things like vampires, (which are bad as a rule; they suck blood and don't have souls), and suddenly its "good" because its part of a supposedly swoony romance or something.
And DO NOT add the Harry Potter series. From what I heard, they promote witchcraft, which is just not good stuff; and I'm not ok with reading about.
BAD can't become GOOD just because its the center of a thrilling adventure or dreamy romance. Bad is bad. And I don't care to read it as "good".

The Harry Potter series doesn't exactly promote witchcraft- it's just the tool JK Rowling uses to share here thoughts and story. Honestly, I love Jesus, and I love God, and I think the Harry Potter series is a must read because it promotes things like love is the most powerful magic (yeah, not witchcraft), nobody is inferior, don't judge a book by its cover, and has some really good themes and lessons in it. I'm going to make my kids read the series, and show them what is good in it, and what is bad. You don't have to read it, or like it, but that doesn't make it "bad". (If you want something horrid to bash on, bash on Fifty Shades of Grey)

However, I can't agree. First off, I'm not bashing Harry Potter because I don't want to read it/don't think I'd like it. I'm saying it has witchcraft in it because it does, doesn't it? And I fail to see how putting an abominable sin (that's what the Bible calls witchcraft) in "fantasy" suddenly makes that sin okay. If adultery was made a "good thing" in some thrilling fantasy book, would you say that was okay too?? It seems to be the same issue.
Also, witchcraft is real thing, even in our today world. I don't think its wise to mess around with that sort of thing. I admit that I have read some books with the craft type of magic in them, but I'm trying to cut all of that out of my reading, because I don't want to read a book that's promoting a sin--especially something dark like witchcraft.
Thanks for your thoughts, but it just doesn't make sense to me. How does some good blot out the glaring bad of the book?

And there are many people out there, one of whom I know personally who have had demonic experiences because of the book. So therefore, I won't be touching with a ten foot pole.

About the person who had the demonic experiences, that is so awful! And terrible how a "children's" book encouraged it! :/ So sad!
My thoughts exactly! I don't have any desire to get near the Harry Potter books. They just sound...dark. Not something that I, as a Christian, want to read!!

My friend who had the experience bought the book to see what people were talking about and other women in the Bible Study told her about the book and to really pray about it first. She went home and asked God to show her and he gave her a picture of these dark and black creepy crawlies coming out of the book. Suffice to say she got rid of that book fast.

Oh, I see! Well, that's great that she went to God with it and He showed her that, and she didn't end up reading it!! But yeah... yucky! *shudder* There really seems to be darkness in the Harry Potter books, and its just awful! :(
Hmm . . . Well, I don't have any idea how to remove books from lists! We'll have to let a librarian know or something! :)

Thanks for removing those books, Shadowjac; I appreciate it! :) Like I've mentioned, I've never read Harry Potter, so I don't really know its content. But there's so much controversy over it and I, personally, am leery of reading it, so I just didn't want it on this particular list.
Anyway, yes, you most certainly may add a picture book! :)

I've not read Harry Potter, but I've heard enough to know that I personally don't want to. And many people I've talked to (who've watched all three) said there's no comparison between the magic of those two and Harry Potter. Harry Potter is a whole different level.
I'm not completely 100% comfortable with LOTR, but I do know the author is a Christian.
...While the author of Harry Potter allegedly said that a lot of her books themes were based on actual occultism.
So yeah. Those area bit of my thoughts on the whole subject. :)

feature adult-aged characters and Explicit NC-17 content: Nudity, Drugs consumption, Rape, Physical Abuse, Abusive relationships, Language, Frank talk of a sexual nature.
They're also shelved as New adult, Adult and Erotica, but as they're marketed as YA, many people make the wrong assumption that they're Young adult.
If someone tries to add those books to this list please comment and I will erase them.
On that list is "The book of Three". I read the german translation of it when I was in the 3rd grade in 1978 (I grew up in Germany and I only spoke German at that time). This book is full of witchcraft and magic, respectively all the heathen stuff of pre-christian Britain. I know that reading this book was a result of a seduction of Satan, for before that I was reading the Bible when I was in the 2nd grade, and I was so thrilled by what God has performed. After reading the books of Lloyd Alexander I was spiritually struggled by bad (demonic) forces, so I can only advise against reading this book.
I don't like The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe because Jesus is shown as a lion. This is very wrong! The Bible says that "Satan goes about as a roaring lion seeking those whom he may devour!" Jesus should never be depicted as a lion. It shows ignorance of Bible teachings. He might depicted as a Lamb.
