Goodreads asked D.G. Allen:

Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?

D.G. Allen Well, I sort of lived it 37 years ago. I toyed with writing it straight up as a biography but attorneys, and Oprah scared me away from that thought. Then when I had the freedom to take characters out for a ride, so to speak, the novel just fell into place. It truly is inspired by actual events and something I felt might be of interest to others. Few white people get or want the opportunity to experiance what I did working in the ghetto of Chicago, and with all the misinformation, racism and stereotypes out there, I felt this book might actually help change the dialog.
