Roy Weiler asked Carole Nelson Douglas:

Go Carole! Do you think/feel it is as good as you're other Midnight Louie books. By the way my black short hair cat Smokie says hi to you, Louie and Louise. Roy

Carole Nelson Douglas Hello Roy,

Since I've written professionally starting a year after I graduated college, I like to think all my work is up to my standards, and work hard to do that. Yet I realize that in a series like the Midnight Louie one, which has all of the Las Vegas Strip for a background, readers will like some books' milieus better than others. I do think Cat in a Yellow Spotlight has a rather different milieu--middle-aged reuniting rock band performers--and a fiendish unexpected twist in the overarching backstory. :)

One Midnight Louie novel that I knew was risky was Cat in a Jeweled Jumpsuit, which took a look at the Elvis phenomenon. Elvis is an idol who was both loved and loathed, which is what intrigued me. I grew up vowing "never" to like Elvis Presley, and researching his life turned me around. I now think he was a tragic figure done wrong by those around him.

Smokie sounds like Louie lookalike. Louie and Louise are happy to be remembered and send regards to you both!

Very Best Fishes, Carole
