Goodreads asked Deborah Jackson:

Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?

Deborah Jackson The idea for Mosaic first came to me when I visited the setting--an island in Florida with a fascinating history and plenty of pirate tales surrounding it. But the story developed into something considerably more than a ghost story or a pirate tale over the years of writing it. I wasn't satisfied with its original structure. I wanted to create something a little more artistic. And I wanted to express the emotions of people who have experienced shattered lives in a unique way, and also convey hope to those who are suffering. I've had my own dark period, and I think the essence of the story was borne out of that. And yet, I still had to keep it somewhat of a thriller and mystery story.
