Goodreads asked Deborah Jackson:

What’s your advice for aspiring writers?

Deborah Jackson Don't be afraid of lousy writing. The words have to be written before they can be rewritten. The story needs to take some shape even if it's awkward and cringeworthy before it can be molded into something better. Keep writing and don't give up just because someone criticizes. It takes years to develop your skill, just as it does in any career. There's no magic wand. It's just hard work . . . but very worthwhile.
