Acheron
question
Can I read this without the other Dark Hunter books?

This book looks interesting, but I don't want to get into a super long series, because I know I won't have time to read once school starts up again (yeeuch). Will this book still make sense and be interesting if I don't know anything about the series?

Don't do it Please. I loved that book so much but I feel like you should know what happens before. His history with the other dark hunters. In the books before you can feel him move, how far removed he is from the other hunters. but he would give his life for them. By the time you get to his book you can't wait, got to know what makes him tick and believe he is well worth waiting for. Ash is my very favorite, wait for him. he will make it worth your while.

NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!! im telling you like i told my younger sister PLEASE go in order!!!!!!!!!! You will understand more and its the respectful thing to do. It's a stand alone book... but then again, you might miss some of Miss Sherri's private jokes spread throughout the book. Besides, DH is a great series
I love it too. I read the books out of order anyways and still know what is goin on!! ^_^
you can read it first since parts are about how the dark hunters came to be. but personally i would say read them in order
I'd start at the beginning and read in order, including the Dream Hunter books mixed in. It'll make everything make more sense, including the Dream Hunter books. Read Fantasy Lover first, it explains how Julian fits into the Dark Hunter world.
This is my favorite of all books. You can read this one first. :)
To read Acheron first would ruin the series. That book explains what Archeron is and why he's like he is. The first half is all about his early life, and it is heartbreaking. The second is about him and his mate, and in the current world. Read it in order and get the most out of the series.
If you are interested only in the character Acheron sure. its like a story of his life.
truthfully I didn't get who Acheron was with the other books until I read this one.
So read this one first then you can follow with the others

Since I got the book as an audiobook for good price, I went ahead and listened to it in a long car ride.. the book is an emotional rollercoaster, definitely broken into past and than current day, and since the majority of the series is current day, this book CAN be read separately. What it did do, though, is help me understand Archeron's character more, and then want to go back and read the other stories. This one has so much depth...and darkness, so be prepared.
yes,u can.but I wouldnt,This is one of my favs.It may b Disturbing at time, but it was well written. You have 2 know his past before you read his present
I actually read this first. This book was my introduction to sherrilyn kenyon and is the reason I went back and read the rest. I loved it.

that's exactly what happened to me! Here in Portugal, for some stupid reason, they published that one first. Only after another publisher started to d

Yes you can , but after you read it you'll want to start from the beginning. So my advice start from the beginning!!! LOL
Do not read it first. It takes the mystery out of the other books. Worth waiting to read.
I wouldn't recommend reading it first because you need to get a sense of his relationship with the other Darkhunters. This book was highly anticipated by all the fans because of the other books, don't deprive yourself of the same feeling! You will enjoy it more that way! The journey with Acheron is worth it.

I read this book first and enjoyed it so much! I think it helped me when I read a few of the other books. Most people have to read a series in order, but with the Dark Hunter series book it helped me.

YES! It is a stand alone as all the others. Once you read it you will want to read the others. Since you stated you won't have time to read the whole series I would suggest reading it then go back to the begining and read when you can.
I read this book first and it immediately caused me to go read the rest.
Agree with most...you can read it on it's own but it is a wonderful series. The whole series is written so you can read each on it's own in any order.
I actually did not know about a few when i started reading and some things make wwwaaaayyyy more sense and you get the jokes/play on words if you read in order too. To each thier own but bottom line, youc an read this and enjoy it w/o the going in order.

You can read it alone but it wouldn't be my recommendation.
Um not to be a read in order authoritarian type of person. But yea you kind of do need to read the series in order. I mean the author writes them all in a way that they can be read as a sort of stand alone. But at the same time there are all kinds of information that goes down that leads up to this book. And it is also book 16 or so I think in the series. You would most likely still be confused by various little things here and there just by going for the gusto and just reading that one.
You can but you'll be missing the first five in the series which are completely awesome!
Simple answer? Yes, yes you can. It's the back story for the quasi-god running the show in the other books. Normally I am a read in order OCD type, but you can get through this without needing to know the other characters to get it. There's just a bigger emotional investment when you've gotten to know him by reading the books that come before.
You can read them out of order- it does help to have the backstory but it is not crucial. I read Acheron first because I had heard it was so good- which it is!!
Acheron was so good that I went on to read everything else that went with the series. Also, the other books aren't nearly as large as Acheron and can be read very quickly.

Yes you can read this book without reading the previous ones there will just be certain inside jokes and back stories on minor characters in this novel that you won't get because minor characters here would be major characters in the other books. Each book has a different major character with a different main plot but is set in the same world and has an overall arc that ties them together.
I read that book. I really feel sorry for the guy. So so sad. I haven't read any other books other than Acheron. I have the copy still you want to swipe.
this was the first one I read of the series, and I loved it...I got kinda confused a couple times, but that was only b/c I didn't know there even WAS a series. however, I would recommend skipping the others just b/c this was the only one I really liked.
You can read it as a stand alone. I felt so sorry for him. The first half of the book made me want to cry for him. I've read it twice though. It was really good.
I would suggest you start at the beginning of the series. I guess you would be fine if you started with this book but there is sooooo much you would be missing out on when it comes to understanding the characters and the background of the story. I would start at the beginning...its sooooo worth it!!
no! don't read it WITHOUT having read the other DH books! it would RUIN your idea of Ash. What i mean by that, is that we meet him more than once in the books before "Acheron", and there's that whole mystery about him, the way he talks, he moves, his reactions. if you read "Acheron" without the knowledge of the others, you might find the others ... weird afterwards. AND, you wont understand a thing about the 2nd part of the story. which would be a shame as it is AWESOME! *grins*
Reader, please, don't spoil yourself the pleasure of reading such a great series!

to add my 2 cents.... the other books are small and very easy to read and get through quickly.
This was the first book that I read in the series. There were places that I felt lost. So, after reading this one. I was hooked, and started at the beginning with the first in the series. I was able to understand the rest of the books better. But, I agree start with the first in the series.
no, the other books give you little tidbits so that when you do read acheron, you will have all of your questions answered.
I read this book before any of the others in the series, and I still haven't caught up on all the others. I didn't find not having read the others as a problem, because it is a self-contained story. I realise, however, that I probably missed out on all the mystery surrounding this character in previous stories. Don't be discouraged though, this book (and the rest of the series... and all Sherrilyn Kenyon books I've read so far) is awesome!
Like everyone else says you can read it alone but, the series is really GREAT. I love that series!!!
This was one of my favorites in the series. I would suggest this as a stand-alone book if you don't have time to read the others; it will still make sense. Green light :)
This is the first book I read in the series IMO it is the best. After I finished it i was hooked I have read them all in order now. You can read this one first but i wouldnt
