His blunt stream of consciousness melts with each of the characters he breathes life into in ways a macabre creature as myself has no trouble melting into.
For context, this statement comes from a cantankerously persnickety creature notorious for abandoning books long before they’ve finished them on account of the saccharine predictability of the narratives and utterly uninspiring speech patterns used to delineate them.
In stark contrast, Oldfuck and Littleshit not only entices with its uniquely unhinged, unihingedly unique title homage to the complementarily disparate protagonists and locks in with the preamble warning and opening scene of the kind of tragedy I intimately identify with, but with every subsequent page, it feels like an epic rollercoaster adventure I’ll not only finish, but gladly revisit, if only for the uncontrollable guffaws incited by Larry’s unnecessarily, yet entirely antisuperfluous manner of communicating ideas any other person would have formulated in infinitely more mundane ways.
That seems kindred and comforting in ways which have compelled me to leave a review before even completing this delightfully apocalyptic installment of his book series.
The praise burns on my fingertips in its insistence to be lavished upon where it’s obviously due, and i am truly grateful this piece of literature and the genius who regurgitated it found me in the time they did, having grown almost entirely jaded with anything not related to my own field of study.
Larry has managed to ecstatically revive fantasy for me, and after the self-inflicted dethroning of Neil Gaiman as my favourite weaver of narratives, it feels like a homecoming I didn’t realise I had been longing for until I found myself immersed in it. ...more "
