I’m midway and in a slump. I’m still curious where this story will go, but I’ve put it aside temporarily to read Land by Maggie O’Farrell…

I just finished part 1 and I’m loving this wild story of an Irish family, struggling, not long after the Great Famine. The father Tomas, has had an epiphany and I’m curious what it will lead to! I hope my friend is almost to this part so we can discuss!! Flying through this.

I’m soooo into this book and the characters.
I low-key don’t want it to end..

This book is amazing on audio! I need to buy this book and reread it in print! This book is amazing period!
There’s this one scene where parents get together to have a “talk” and things get out of hand and omg that scene will live rent free in my head forever. In fact, when done I’m gonna rewind the audio & play that chapter again!

I haven’t read more of this but I will be, I’m just gravitating to some others more. Maybe will reopen it one I get finished some of the others.

I’m up to chapter 4 and am really enjoying this!

Still learning each chapter new characters and them first seeing the bright star.
Some really interesting dilemmas, philosophical and otherwise, that the characters come up against. His characters are modern, complex, and interesting as is the story. I’m really enjoying his writing.
One pet peeve of mine when reading translated fiction is not knowing how to pronounce the names! I think I’m gonna google them!!

This book is infuriating. I learned that NOt all 50 states in our union had spousal rape as a crime until like 1993. Say what??

Loving this book it’s a real page- turner. So much apocalyptic drama!!!! Frightful stuff.

I’m gearing to the end, flying thru this story and loving it. It’s so damn gripping!

The white Christian nationalist that takes power in this story in 2032 is freaking me out bc it rings so familiar!

Engrossed in this book stayed up late to read but still have a lil ways to go!

I flew through those pages yesterdays engrossed in the creepy story.

This is such a fun book but pausing for prize nominated books and arcs will circle back!!

Stalled but not bc I’m not enjoying it. Pausing for Booker reads and women’s prize reading and arc reading … but looking forward to getting into this again!

I’m really enjoying this coming of age story. I’m not entirely expecting a happy ending though.

I’m still a bit stalled in this long book. I’m hoping to get. Chance to just get deeper in but I’m reading multiples so I probably won’t for a while. I’d like to instead commit to at least 50-100 pages a week so I don’t lose my desire to read it. My brain is fickle like that.

This book! So beautifully written and such heartaches! I’m really enjoying this and plan to finish this week.

Poetic! Lovely and interesting.

It’s clear to me that this writer and myself are probably twin souls — or rather —- that all lovers of reading have a bit of similarity in their souls bc the way she speaks about the joys of reading it really touched my heart and I was like samesssss girl saaaaaames! Say less! But say more lol!!! I love the way she loves books so now I want to read her other book too even more now!!

A spy-thriller!?! Who woulda thunk it that I would enjoy a spy book but this one caught my eye because I trust Louise Penny as a writer and it was cowritten with a Chinese author. I especially enjoy hearing the Chinese accents and words spoken by someone that speaks Chinese it makes it to much more enjoyable than reading bc it distracts me when I don’t know how to say a name. Really enjoying this!

Enthralled. Focuses on 1979 revolution tbY overthrew the Shah of Iran and instituted Khohmeini who was not what some of the “revolutionaries” wanted and now our MC flees with his family to Germany bc he fears that the new secret police will arrest him. I’m just now in the 10 year after part from the perspective of his wife. Really enjoying this. Learning too.

On this page the soldier is having what I can only describe as an existential panic attack.
He basically is wondering what’s in her head, but he knows that NO ONE can know what’s in another’s head. Then he fears they are not having the “same” breakfast in their minds which makes him wonder if she’s even there or if there’s a breakfast… and down the rabbit hole he goes. I’ll quote it later.

Riveting. Propulsive. Engaging.

I’m already loving this dual timeline story that flips from Eve & Nell being 12-13 yr olds (and all the horrors of mean girl/preteen angst) and being adults that are estranged.
This book is written with such spot-on reality, that it brings me back to those insecure days of middle school. When it flashes to the current day, it reminds me of how it is to parent a 7 yr old. It’s had me laugh a few times already.

Vacillating between feeling breathlessly sad, and breathlessly enraged. Suicide in general makes me angry. I’ve had people in my family do it and it almost feels like an act of violence upon all of us left behind, including children, and that’s what makes me enraged. Parents shouldn’t get to leave off and abandon their children that way. I cannot accept it. Will not.

Brutal read. Soooo many emotions, some of them not too kind. I’m vacillating between anger and disbelief and sadness and empathy. It’s an all over the board kind of read for emotions. Part also made me cry. Suicide is so so painful is so many ways to so many of the people left behind. If the people ending their own pain realized the life-sentence of pain that they give the living, could they try harder to stay?
