Yes, I’m FINALLY reading this classic for the first time

Already had this checked out from the library, and then… longlisted for the national book award, you say? Let’s go!

Revisiting this series, as my first time was pre-Goodreads for me.

I’m going to return to this one in the fall or winter ~ really liking the unique style, but the tone is too melancholy and the topics too heavy (death and abuse and abandonment) for me during frothy summer reading season

Do I have to finish this? I haven’t been able to make myself yet. The narration does not at all fit the storyline, so that definitely might be part of the issue.

I’m in a bit of (read: TOTAL) “eat the rich” phase given my damn student loans, 3 kids and no hope in hell of helping them with college bc I’m still paying for MY college and hoping and praying we can get our mortgage paid off before retirement. Therefore, this absolute unchecked, unrecognized and gross display of ALL THE FUCKING PRIVILEGE ON EARTH is a bit of a turnoff, I guess 🤷🏼‍♀️

A re-read of an absolute favorite from my childhood ❤️ I know I wouldn’t have the same reaction if I were reading this for the first time as an adult, but as a visit to my childhood, it’s a wonderful journey.

Look at the covers of the first two books in this series and then this one 😭 adore the story so far but this cover is tragic

DNF page 68 ~ the matriarch of this family is just plain mean and unlikeable and other characters just seem like caricatures. I have liked other Susan Mallory books so much more 😢

DNF for now. It seems less like an Anastasia retelling and more of a parody with the ridiculous British names and over-characterization and I’m struggling mightily to follow the back story. I adore Cole though and look forward to her next books.

My 3rd try with this one! I couldn’t focus on it the first two times but maybe THIS time will be the charm 🙏🏼

Had to return this to the library before I finished but what I read of it was so informative and powerful. Definitely a book to savor rather than read straight though.

(Free review copy) I loved this one as much as the others in the series for the evolved men and the hilarious friend banter. It was a little out there with the whole Cheese Man addition and I don’t love books within books but overall I’m SO happy we got to hear The Russian’s story finally!

Is using the n word ever a necessity to set the time and place? I’d argue no. It’s been used twice so far in the first third of this story. White author.

I listened to Kate on the Fated Mates podcast episode yesterday (ALL about retelling sin romance novels - SO GOOD) and it made me even more excited to dig into this one! Here goes......

Pausing on audio and will finish on paper. I need faster paced for my ears and this is a slow and mellow story so far.

Okay, so now I have also tried taping my mouth shut while I sleep - only to realize I already breathe through my nose then so that’s a nonissue for me. Also am convinced I need to chew gum for hours a day to build up my chewing muscles to change the bone structure of my head 🤷🏼‍♀️ If nothing else, Nestor can sell me, the biggest skeptic on earth, literally ANYTHING.
