I really want to like Sam, as he's a favourite in the Marshals series. But here he's such an overbearing arrogant ass that it's a struggle. He abandoned Jory for 3 years after Jory nearly DIED, and he thinks he can just pop back up and growl "you're mine", and everything is A-okay? Nope. And what's with ALWAYS interrupting Jory?? Poor guy almost never gets to complete a sentence!

Audible version review
The Audible version has some mispronunciations that aggravate the heck out of me. Ian "crowd" during sex at one point, and i was so confused until I stopped and relistened to the sentence. CROWED. Ian crowed. How does that get mispronounced? And can someone show me where the 'i' is in languorous? "Lang-er-us", not "lan-gory-us"! 🤦🏻‍♀️

OMG. While I'm enjoying the actual story, the grammatical and punctuation errors are KILLING me.
1. "Observative" is not a word. You mean "observant".
2. When you are suspicious of someone, you cast a WARY eye on them, not a WEARY eye.
3. For the love of all things holy, can we PLEASE teach people that apostrophes DO NOT pluralize a word? Aceto's (12 times). Yet managed to use Acetos' correctly later. Ugh.

• A New Thrill by Avril Ashton - DNF
This is billed as a second chance romance. Pax dumped his ex when he discovered he was part of the bank robbery that traumatized him. 6 months later, the ex has catfished him on the H2H app and is love-bombing him to win him back. I think it's supposed to come off as dedication, but it just comes off as creepy and a giant refusal to take no for answer. It's just gross.

A lot of errors and I'm not even done the 1st chapter. Missing commas, "he'd learn to follow the." Follow the what? Did he mean "follow them"? "every single day there was someone knew coming back here". Knew? Who proofread this? If this was a paper book I'd have my marking pen all over it. We'll see if it gets better.

Only 9% in and I'm already yelling at a MC. This does not bode well. I get that there needs to be at least some degree of suspension of disbelief for fiction to be enjoyable (dragons, anyone?). But come on, here. Eiji is *25*. An adult. And instead of going straight to the police to report his ongoing kidnapping when he manages to escape the house, he goes DANCING instead?? Seriously??

I have to take a step back, I think. I'm really struggling with the speed that Charlie has forgiven Justin. That's probably a failing on my part, but continuing to read is just making me angry, so break-time it is.

Chapter 16
This is NOT a book I should read at work, as all I want to do is weep for Palani and everything he has to sacrifice so that Vieno can be safe. Much sad, very cry. I know it won't stay that way, but in the moment, my heart breaks for him.

OMG, pick a narrative tense and stick to it! You're moving from present tense to past tense WITHIN THE SAME PARAGRAPH! *So* annoying.

Okay, ridiculous plot premise aside, why is there no talk of a contract for Goldie? Obvs, sleazy porn boss will try to manipulate the situation to his heavy benefit. But. You're doing a film/series of films to pay off a debt. Get a contract outlining regular royalty payments that will be handed over until the debt is paid, and thereafter royalties will go straight to Goldie. Duh! Sometimes fiction sucks!

I thought that, having read this already, I'd be able to steel my emotions as I read. Nope! I'm low-key soggy almost from the jump, and I wouldn't have it any other way. The soul-deep despair surrounding and devouring Killian and Zak is so present it's like an actual person. Reading this feels like when I watch Jane Eyre (Fassbender version).

They're finding out the sex of their baby from a stenographer?? *facepalm* How the hell did that make it past proofing and editing?? The term you're looking for, sir, is sonographer. Good grief.

And I've never read such a worrywart alpha as Linc! Doc says she's never heard of claiming a pregnant mate being dangerous, but he wants more more MOAR opinions. *rolls eyes*

Holy fudgesicles! I think I've dehydrated myself with this book. It's a wonder I'm even able to read anything with the amount of full-on ugly crying I'm doing.

If you're going to read this, HYDRATE! Seriously.

2/3 of the way through and Miles is still being Mr Noble Martyr. I really want Rubble to be happy, but at this point I'd love to beat the names out of Miles myself. Ffs, I hate when characters feel they have to suffer for everyone else's benefit! Fuck you, Miles.

I really want to like Miles, because I did in Mortician, but he's making it REALLY difficult with all his hot and cold I can't ever have a life of my own because my deadbeat father sold it out from under me and I don't think I'm worth fighting for, and I won't trust Rubble enough to believe that I could have a whole entire biker club to go to war for me bullshit. COMMUNICATE, ffs! Gah!

I've read the blurb, and I've read all the GR reviews, and I have to say, I'm equal parts intrigued, appalled, and scared shitless.

I usually like all the characters Jayda writes (if she means for them to be likeable), but Theo rubs me the wrong way. You take a guy to a dance club on a first date, give him a handy in a dark corner and beat a hasty retreat right afterward, and then ghost him for 5 days, and you're surprised when he's moved on to someone else in the meantime? Dude, you're lucky he even took your phone call when you showed back up!

This is so OTT ridiculous that at this point, I'm just hate-reading it. 18-yr-old Rowan wears a paci on a lanyard around his neck, and a vicious Russian mobster is offering him $50,000 to be his housekeeper for one month. And this idiot actually thinks it's a legit job offer! "Housekeeper". Yeah, sure. Only if it's pronounced "rent boy". If I roll my eyes any harder I'm going to seriously injure myself.

Was this even proofread? Only 1/3 of the way through, and one of the MC's names has been misspelled, whose instead of who's, words missing, tenses change mid-sentence. I know it's not Shakespeare, but one read-through by an even half-awake proofer should have caught these. It's a fluffy read, but these dumb errors keep pulling me out of the story.

You're gay, and your parents are homophobes who won't keep their opinions to themselves around your daughter. WHY is your immediate response to them not "if you don't accept me, you don't get to poison my daughter", instead of "they're her grandparents, so 11-yr-old daughter will have to just suck it up until she's had more of her childhood contaminated"?? Seriously, Josh, WTF is WRONG with you??

Wow. I really was on board with Timothy and Michael in In Life. But here? Here, they're both the worst traits of every friend in high school who blew off their bestie for the boyfriend of the month. Timothy is actually kind of a dick - no time for his best friend once he's got Michael...until Robin's turned, and all of a sudden it benefits Timothy. Not cool, Timothy, not cool.

Still don't understand Grim's fetish and likely never will, but I can't help but like Grim. Dogged determination and obsession aside, he's just so danged earnest that once you get used to how intensely he feels about Misha that it's almost impossible not to like him. I tell ya, that realization shocked the hell outta me!
