Racing through the pages. Very readable though looking up lots of Britishisms. Good twists.

A collection of stories that are moments in a variety of women's lives that ring so true the reader keeps wondering if it's really mis-categorized and should be labeled a collection of essays.

It's a mini education about outstanding writers who just happen to be female and single and how this shaped their work and lives. Through these writers the author is exploring her own possibilities out loud on the page and the reader is in lock-step and eagerly turning the pages.

Fast moving, smart and sending me to look up many other interesting works as well as the author's profile. Great premise. The description early on about what one's home - just from the outside - reveals is engaging and revved up thoughts and imagination.

Reading and knitting oh to do both together well! Some of my favorite authors writing about knitting starting with Steve Almond - caught me off guard as he writes one of the best descriptions of crocheting. "Sometimes, I would gaze down at the yarn looping around the end of the needle and the knot slipping free and I would see the hook as a tiny little head that was being hanged and rescued over and over."

Story unfolds languorously and moves between characters and time frames with ease. Literary enough to keep me reading but warming like the summer sun. Great reference to Georges Sand's "A Winter in Mallorca" another love letter to this region. Nichols' prose has the fragrance of fresh lemon, olives and almonds wafting in the air above the page.

"Mexican pastries always smell so much better than they taste." Laughed out loud as I remember always thinking this when I lived in San Jose del Cabo. Pastries were beautifully shaped, golden brown and aromatic. But, all tasted alike and not very good. One exception, the bolillo rolls - staple at dinner - crusty on outside, chewy and delicious.

Intriguing characters. Bibi is a hoot! Am completely curious where Jones is taking me on this journey. Back to the ARC.

Absolutely spot on - Abigail Thomas lures me in and keeps me there. She feels like an old friend. Favorite lines thus far “I want to make Death a member of my family. I don’t want it to arrive as a stranger.” Excerpt From: Thomas, Abigail. “What Comes Next and How to Like It.” Scribner. iBooks. This material may be protected by copyright. Reichl's voice always delights me. Great transition from nonfiction and memoir to a juicy, moth watering novel. Makes me long for the culinary boutiques of NYC.

Tore open package from Algonquin Books, one of my favorite publishers and out came Alice Eve Cohen's new memoir, The Year My Mother Came Back. Started reading standing up in hallway and 75 pages later I haven't moved. Gorgeous voice. Tears flowing freely. Back to reading!

Robin Romm has me laughing and weeping. She's spot on about "Barb" the hospice nurse and the bizarre head snapping turn of events as ones chronically ill mother moves into the final stages of life. Beautifully written and prime example of memoir writing!

Hope Edelman came into my reading life today via Cheryl Strayed as I started smashing the delete button on email promoting Mother's Day. 47 pages of tears and recognition. Already shipped a copy to a dear friend who is also recently experiencing what Edelman has dubbed Mother Loss. Funny as the strains of the song, Motherless Child" have been rooted in my head all day like that accursed song, "it's a Small World."

"Someday, you may think of marrying. Pick someone who thinks you're the only person in the room." A.J. Fikry in this amazing novel by Gabrielle Zevin. So appreciate sage advice in the guise of literary fiction. Head over heels for this book - know I won't want to turn the last page.

Love it when a novel astounds me and keeps me reading despite a long to-do list. Algonquin's publicity team is stellar as usual - fun bookmark looks like a ferry ticket - no spoilers here. Read this book.

Handler's voice is spectacular and comes across the page as well as attending her lectures in person. Invisible Sisters drew me in, had me seek her out - lucky me I was living in Atlanta at the time and met this outstanding writer, guru, guide and friend. Practical, doable work for exercising & excising one's demons.

Opening pages not for the weak stomached but certainly grabs the readers' attention. Calming tea and a Lorna Doone took the edge off - diving back in as Frangello's voice is good.
