Short stories? About drugs? This book was made for me! The vocabulary used was a bit tricky at times because it's older american slang. Silly me thought at first the stories have no connection between each other, and fairly so, bcs the narrator shows so many faces, a very multifaceted character; extremely realistic, as any average person is, acting illogically and immorally sometimes, kindly and generously at others.

I finished the first chapter, and I could swear it was a whole book. Lots of important lessons for organising efficiently a socialist organisation packed in these few pages. It is a difficult task, but this book provides some great guidance!

It's 3 am. I can't leave this book from my hands. Angela Davis has a talent for writing in a very engaging way. And oh my god, how come I've never dived deeply into studying the history of slavery before? Maybe because there's so much to it. There are manyy lessons from the slaves' resistance for today's struggles. And now I also get to understand how the womanhood of today was shaped by the experience of slave women

I like how the book starts by critically looking at the "prophecies" of Trotsky and refuting them one by one, comparing them with reality. I finally started the process of getting a good grip on the understanding of the international socialism tendency

Well... Reading this book, the fact that I dropped out of uni and got an exhausting minimum wage job doesn't sound so bad after all compared to the possibility of being in prison. I am re-considerig whether I want to go to the doctor and ask for an autism assessment...
I needed this book so much! So sick of only liberal books about "strategies" and "tips" and too many ways to cope and "fix" your neurodiverse brain!

Omg finally a book that puts into words my struggles and things I've been thinking about! A book that criticises the medical model of disability, that pathologizes neurodiversity. I didn't know that neurodiversity has radical and poltical roots. I should've guessed. I believe this book will life changing in a way. Many thanks to the author for writing this! We need more books like these instead of just "tips"

Woman, stop lying to your children, please!!!

It gets more interesting. The author indeed makes unnecessarily a lot of use of anything related "dark." At some point, "darkening street" made absolutely no sense in the paragraph. The descriptions feel a bit off for me, but maybe I will get more into it. I feel like I am not used at all to the style of this author.

Uuu, now the action is starting. Fuck, when the scene with the cops with the tear gas beating the union member teachers was mentioned, I got instantly hooked, that felt real, and it got me involved. Until then, I had a very hard time relating to the main character, Eilish. Her reactions are contradictory, and she feels naive. But I am curious what this book has to offer.

I got to a very inspiring chapter with very hardcore sadism and masochism. Never read something like this in a printed book. Love this book so much! And Jamie is such a sweetheart.

I love Takatsuki, the bear who knows how to talk and how to read and count money bcs he was raised by humans as a cub and he finds random stuff on the side of the road and he takes them home and is happy and sells honey for ¥200 the bottle.🫶

Wow, this last story is now a fairytale inside another story. I loveee how every story is different from each other, but they kind of have the same vibe, but they have their own particularities.

ACAB! And I am so curious why the author chose this specific style for the dialogues in the book. There is absolutely zero indicator of the lines being dialogue. You can only infer that after reading. I am so wondering what the reason for this decision was, as I've never encountered this before. I also appreciate that there is a big-letters, accessible edition of the paperback in addition to the normal one.

I want to see all sexual abusers, rapists, men who ask for their dick to be sucked literally for favours, BE BURNED ALIVE!! And more than that, I want to see the system that enables, teaches, perpetuates, and normalises such behaviour crumble down into dust.

Omg, now there is a part about autism. It is soo fascinating. I love how Oliver Sacks is aware of the shortcomings of the mental health asylums or state hospitals, but he also points out how, for some patients, when there is enough care and patience, such a hospital can offer a safe heaven for healing. And the way he was talking about autism! So much that we could learn (for everyone!) if we'd care more.

A friend wanted to get rid of this book. I noticed that it has easy and accessible French, so I thought it's a good opportunity to refresh my French. I had such an amazing time trying to understand the words, bit by bit, with some random atmospheric music in the background. I got so immersed, reading and deciphering it feels like such an intimate experience. The 105 years of it only enrich everything.

AMAZING! WHY DIDN'T I KNOW ABOUT SEXUAL MEMOIRS BEFORE?! 100% recommend listening to Xiu Xiu. Their music is so queer (sound-wise) and absolutely fascinating. I love how straightforward and honest Jamie is in all the stories. I really hope that by the end of the book, they find their sense of self(-worth, -respect). I am having so much fun reading this book.

Awesome! I love the part about excesses waaaaay more than the one about deficits. It's the first time when I hear about psychiatry and neurology explored from this point of view, a very curious one. And it's so interesting how all of these cases and "disorders" teach so much about the human brain in general. There are some cases in which patients, after becoming ill, they feel way more alive and healthier than before

The book is a delight! I love the humanistic and empathetic and curious and open-minded approach of Oliver Sacks to his patients, humans, and science. I really wish all doctors and scientists would be like this... the world would be a better place.
There really seems like no one is really sick truly (they are incapacitated truly), but they develop other ways of functioning and going about life.

I love this book. I didn't expect it to be this good. Oliver Sacks was an amazing neurologist so open-minded and passionate. I love how the treatments for each patient, since there are no traditional ones, are things such as inclusive accessibility, community, a life of music and art. I love how he treats each of them as full human beings and how these people grow and live despite their disorders. I love life stories

- I didn't know there was a petition to the UN to charge the US with genocide against black people. I am wondering what the outcome of that was.
- I found out about Hrant Dink. I'll read more about him.
- Angela Davis soo graciously draws parallels and connections between struggles all over the world. I am mesmerised!
- The more I learn, the more I understand that slavery is not a relic of the past. Far from that.
