So far so good. Definitely has “intro to cozy fantasy/ intro to LitRPG” vibes all over it, but we are still in the intro faze. Well written at this point, in a genre that tends to have very derivative and poorly written early chapters.

That relationship deteriorated faster than expected

One of the most engrossing first chapters I’ve read in ages. The atmosphere is masterfully crafted.

The writing overall improves during part 2. Worth sticking through the weaker chapters if you find the ideas interesting.

Bill seems too obvious a suspect, but maybe that’s what Chandler wants me to think.

My first Chandler. It feels weird that I’ve never read him.

Deep-seated. Seated. Get an editor, man. The world and ideas are so cool, but this is a tough read at times. I feel like I’m reading a 2nd draft. Stop telling me how you feel and show me so I can be immersed, Jake.

I’m enjoying the system, and the premise/world building scratches a DCC itch for me. Jake is pretty annoying. Jury is still out on the cast on the whole.

Immediately doesn’t need to be after every action done with urgency and purpose, my friend.

Enjoying the mix of elements that make this up so far, but the prose is rough. A lot of unnecessary words and clunky sentences already, needs an editor.

As someone who makes a living in marketing, this feels shockingly prophetic.

Once the story hits its stride, the prose is quite good. Very readable for how heady the language is.

Thank you, Project Gutenberg. Been wanting to read this one for years, I love the Velvet Underground. I’m not terribly impressed so far, but we’re early.

I never knew much about this book. It was on my bookshelf when reorganizing. I don’t know how long I’ve had it, or where it came from. While I have difficulty setting aside my ever pervasive cynicism, and I’m no fan of the mirror this book holds up to me, I feel I’ve found it at the right time.
