SUMMARY: the book is shown through the third child Luke's perspective. In this world you're only allowed to have 2 children. And if you break this rule you have to pay a big fine or worse. Right now, Luke escapes his house after seeing a suspected third child in the sports house. Luke makes it to the sports house, breaks in, and figures out that there is a third hidden child but she is a girl.

VISUALIZE: I visualize The Walls children as bare-boned, dirty children who try their best to look good. I imagine Lori, the eldest sister as a tall girl with deep dark hair and purple glasses, I imagine Brian as a small boy with dirty pale skin and oversize clothes, Maureen as a tiny little girl with bouncy curls and green eyes, finally, I imagine Jeannette as a feisty girl who stands up for herself and siblings.

POINT OF VIEW: The story is shown through Jeannette's perspective on her life. It starts with her in New York City as an adult seeing her mom again. Because of this the book flashes to her earliest memory of when she was three years old. The story line then follows her and her family lives as they age and the places they go.

INCITING INCIDENT: In the beginning of the book the inciting incident is the Santa Clause ad talking to Willy and telling him he needs to change his life. But as the book progresses, the focus changes to Mr. Bones having a dream about Willy dying and at last completing his mission, getting to Mrs. Swanson.

THE 7 ARCHETYPES: the book I'm reading is a mixture of a tragedy, the quest and overcoming the monster. It's a tragedy because the majority of the main characters die trying to save each other. But, it is overcoming the monster because they have to overcome the death of their loved ones and survive their world. it is also a quest because the characters have to get to one of the survival spots before it's too late.

SUMMARY: The main characters are the Evans family, and Sarah, Jon's love interest. The story line shows the Evans family surviving the moon collision and the aftermath of where they go and how they survive. At the moment the book takes place in one of the enclaves where Jon lives. The book is told through Jon's point of view showing his struggles of learning to live in the harsh reality.

TEXT TO TEXT: this book reminds me of the book "Dry". In the book Dry, there is a family that is struggling after a drought hits leaving them stranded without water and resources. In the book The Shade of the Moon the Evans family fights their way through the dystopian landscape after a meteor strikes the moon. In these two books both families have to survive the aftermath of devastating weather phenomenons.

CHARACTERIZATION: on page 13 "Sal, you're so courageous. You're ever so brave... Me? I'm not brave." This shows how on the outside people see Sal as brave and courageous but from her point of view she sees herself as afraid and not brave. on page 13 " I was not. I, Salamanca Tree Hiddle, was afraid of lots and lots of things."

ANTAGONIST: The antagonist is nature. the weather phenomenon has turned out to be the main antagonist, killing the majority of the population.

STATIC vs DYNAMIC: At the moment Miranda and her family are static characters. They are static because at the beginning of the book Miranda is sort of struggling because they barely survived the cold and are having a hard time with there food and resources. As the book progresses they get food and start thriving a lot more. Therefore Miranda, the main character is a static character.

CONFLICT: In the book, the conflict is character vs nature. I think this is because an asteroid hits the moon off course which messes up the gravitational pull. Because of this Miranda and her family have to face the different weather disasters including tornadoes, blizzards, pandemics, volcanoes, famine and more.

PREDICTIONS: at the moment in the book I'm reading there kind of going through a rough part. The volcanoes have erupted and are covering the sun with thick smoke making the temperature drop rapidly. Miranda's mom, Laura has also broken her ankle making her unable to do basic tasks. Because of this I think that they are going to make it out of the winter but just barely surviving.

P.O.V- My book is first person. Miranda the main character narrates the story through her point of view. It's first person because it has a lot of I's. "I haven't been listening to the news for months now." This shows how it's first person. It's also first person because it only says her name in dialog when people are talking to her.

PROTAGONIST: My book focuses on Miranda, a teenage girl battling a dystopian world after an asteroid hits the moon closer to earth messing up the tides, volcanoes and more. " that's why the tides changed. And that's what caused all the earthquakes... mom managed half a smile." this shows how miranda is stressed and scared because how the world is near its end. it also shows why shes so scared.

SETTING: the setting of the book is suburban Pennsylvania. in the book its mid June and Miranda the main character is going to millers pond to swim and meet up with her boyfriend Dan. At the moment Lisa, Mrs. Nebbit, Miranda, and Dan went to the gas station to get gas and see if there's any food (which there was).

GENRE: this book is dystopian, sci fi and apocalyptic. it is dystopian because it is very futuristic and is taken place in a very messy area. It's sci fi because it has a lot of science in it but its also untrue. an example of it being sci-fi is the moon moving closer because of a asteroid hitting it. this can not happen but its realistic. and finally its apocalyptic because the world is ending and there in a panic.

So far its very good and I'm eager to read more. In the book the moon just moved closer and now the tides are moving in and none of the cell phones are working. I'm very excited to read more about it and find out what happens to the characters and the disasters that are going to come.
