Thus ends volume 1. On to volume 2!

The Pool of Forgetfulness is a good autumnal poem. I also liked better the version of Tinfang Warble that returns in the poem Over Old Hills and Far Away.

In honor of that ubiquitous purple typewriter ribbon:

The purple ribbon of Leeds,
The clue the researcher needs,
To date Tolkien’s verse,
Riddled with faint writing or worse,
Thus the ordering of poems succeeds.

Random Thought: someone ought to write a poem entitled, “The Purple Ribbon of Leeds.”

You have to love a chapter that begins: "Arni was having trouble locating Elvish speakers in Iceland, especially on a Saturday."

Or this passage that reads like a weird AU LotR fanfic: "Agnar was dead. Gimli was in jail. The police had the saga. And the ring was out there, somewhere in Iceland, and he had no way of knowing where. Isildur had done what he could from Rivendell..."

Very engaging and interesting. One comment: I'm puzzled about the mediocre photos and illustrations. They ought to enhance and support the text. What's up with some of the muddy, bland photos and crude drawings? One was labeled 'trees and cloud' and for the life of me, I can't figure out what it had to do with anything. It's not even a good photo.

Little more than halfway. Some good stuff in here.
