Hence the second best is from therapeutic hemp from these places but sold everywhere, ie cannabis with it’s THC bred out but still with a higher concentration of cbd and other canabanoids. Manufacturers can often name the farm and place where its grown. Industrially grown hemp is the cheapest, grown in China and Europe. Organic variants might be the better choice.

I started reading this book being very very critical of the premise: that God spoke to the author. Surely God wouldn’t express themselves that casually or with such Christian-centric examples in their arguments. By chapter 3 I realised that it doesn’t matter if I believe it or not. The ideas within on how to think about life are so helpful for humanity right now.

Alok establishes themselves as a gender non-confirming being, like an identity that just is. It’s a very American approach in my view. Almost aggressively trying to demand a slice of a pie of accepted, protected identities that make up melting pot America.

Alok starts by establishing themselves as being born into non-binary, and as someone who visibly expresses this. Unfortunately, to the average reader, it’s seems to be a scolding on how to respect them, rather than opening up with a discourse on gender and how we should all question it.

Chapter 6 further made me understand that we do not live in a post racial world as much as white guilt in us has tried to push the narrative that there is a lot of goodwill and charity that is making up for what our ancestors did. That narrative is dangerous and it halts progress and reinforces stereotypes and makes us into white saviours

The chapter on class talked about separating the working class along racial lines, and politicians pitting “white working class” against their poor black neighbours. An exercise to distract from the struggle against the haves akin to the “divide and conquer” method used by colonialists.

The chapter on Feminism came unexpected as I believed the book to be purely on race. I have ignore/rejected feminism so far as it didn’t speak to me as a genderqueer person but after this chapter I understand it better. The key point relating it to race was that feminism isn’t representative and that racism is often upheld in what the author coins “white feminism”.

I’ve learnt that denying that colour bias exists is equal to protecting white dominance. Rather than claiming I’m simply non-racist and end a debate, it’s more helpful to always be receptive to learn more.

How can the author claim that the white reader is racist? Because our “definition of a racist is someone who holds a conscious dislike of people because if race” and this is what stops the debate. However, doing this uploads the status quo which is still an unequal society. This is the problem: The definition we’ve worked with so far doesn’t allow us of dismantle racism.

“One of the greatest social fears for a wire person is to be told that something that we Have said or done is racially problematic. Yet when someone lets us know we have just done such a thing, rather than respond with gratitude and relief (after all, now that we are informed, we won’t do it again), we often respond with anger and denial.”

Repeatedly telling ourselves, and worse still telling our children, that we are all equal is a misdirected yet well-intentioned lie. Indulging in the myth that we are all equal denies the economic, political and social legacy of a British society that has historically been organised by race. The reality is, in material terms, we are nowhere near equal.

Make no mistake this is a Christian book. Biblical prayers are laced throughout like the Lords Prayer in its fullness in Chapter 17. It really got me uncomfortable and made me disconnect. I wish the book could have been made more universal or have another edition for those that aren’t Christian but are still interested in this universally helpful message.

Mostly focused on antisemitism In British politics, the end of chapter 2 looks at cases in France and Europe where it’s much more harrowing. In the US, the chapter ends with the story of Robert Bowers who shot 11 people in a synagogue and was nurses after the attack by a Jewish nurse. This was the first time the book got me emotional.

Blaming actions of the right-leaning Israeli government on Jews worldwide is a common phenomenon of present day internet ignorance. Israeli government actions can and should be scrutinised and criticised just like politics in any other country but if one is obsessed with only illegitimising Israel, it is antisemitic!

The so called “anxious-avoidant trap” is a major warning in the book and i recognise pat relationships of mine or my friends or just some patterns of it. Being clear on the underlying issue of one partner wanting closeness and the other independence really helps to strip away all the petty superficial reasons why people fight and get to the bottom of it.
