Well, I don't think I have ever experienced the gut-punch feeling of hating a book by page 3, yet here I am. A very curiois feeling.
And things haven't changed by page 80 either. This is embarrassingly bad and juvenile!

A rererereread, because I need some Sam Vimes and Vetinari in my life, plus I wanted to try the new audiobook version narrated by John Culshaw.

Fun fact: the neon signs on the book cover are actually in Hungarian!

"Művèsz Szìnhàz" (Artist Theatre) was a real establishment bw 1932-38 in Budapest.

"Déligyümölcs" (tropical fruit) is the Hungarian title of André Birabeau’s play Pamplemousse which premiered in the Művèsz Theatre in 1938 and the neon names below belong to existing HU actors of the time.

Oh, these must be some of the nicest & funniest email exchanges between a romantic couple..... or is it just narrator Farah Kidwai being very good? 🤔

Either the summary chapter on the War of the Roses is one of the best and clearest I've read so far or I've become a "sage" on the topic unawares and now recognize and remember everything Anthony Cheetham told us about. 🤭

At the point in the story where Dan Jones heroically takes on the battle of pronouncing the names of the Magyar tribes leaders (attacking Augsburg) and fails 🤭, though not too badly and absolutely forgiveably. 😅

Top on the endless fighting with a heavy dose of tragic melodrama and add some mindless lovey-dovey stuff.... bleurgh, what is this?!

Could we have just a teensy bit less of these neverending heroic fights? That are not 3 chapters long? Only 2, maybe?
