Trying to finish this before Christmas because of Stranger Things. I'm familiar with D&D and The Forgotten Realms and this book is important and has a similar lore when it comes to an elder brain and the hivemind control infections.

The only problem with these books is that the author clearly has never had any bad bloody injuries like the main character has. First the hot water bath which 100% re-opens a fresh wound. Now she's bathing in natural water, which is amazing if you want to die from a bad infection. Other than this tiny annoyance, I have none.

I love this book. The only thing that just bothered me was Luthiel being asked if she wanted to take a hot bath while being covered in bandages because she's severely wounded. That's one way to make sure you'll keep your wounds open.

Truly a relief after so many terrible YA romances in fantasy books. The only thing I dislike is that I probably just guessed a big part of the plot and I love plottwists that can't be guessed easily. But that's okay.

I think I've finally found a fantasy book that may not be, at least partially, ruined by its horribly written romance. This is just my instinct talking though. But it's positive.

So my problem with this book lies with the structure. If you are like me and learn top-down, this is quite a mess and it reminds me of bad schoolbooks that are bottom-up. Put everything from one person together instead of scattering it here and there. The way we go from person A to B, C and then suddenly there's something about A again is confusing. Just put everything about A together.

Now this is what should've been included in Disney's version of Hercules. We were robbed.

These men are insane. They randomly see a woman, then stalk her and say they love her while not knowing her. Obviously the women want nothing to do with them but get turned into nature in order to protect them from being raped? 😭

This is definitely about me.

Screaming to the main character because she's THAT selfish and morally an idiot. Which once again makes an interesting yet frustrating read. I'm used to main characters immediately trying to do the right thing and having to convince others to join them. This is the other way around.

Actually an interesting read because the main character is a brainwashed government trusting dummy and says exactly the same things people irl would say to defend the system. It's interesting because those characters are rarely ever the main character.

Okay so the plot is interesting and makes you empathize with the main character, but the language is far too modern for a setting in Ancient Greece. The use of 'they/them' as there's randomly a non-binary character is annoying tbh. There's a harpy attack and 'their nails digging into her skin' is about the they/them nails and not about those of the harpies. It slows me down as I have to reread sentences.

Loving the story so far but the modern language in this setting is throwing me off guard.

The only thing I will never be a fan of is the romance. At least it's not the main thing in this story and after Iron Flame I'm just glad certain acts aren't written down in the worst vomit simulating repelling way. I am confident it is no coincidence that my illness, which lasted for a month, started after having finished that book. Must have been the cringe writing germs.

Basically the only thing I don't really like is the romance. Just like I did in the first book. Luckily it's not the main theme and everything else makes up for it.

This woman's name is 'Methsme'? 😭

This close to discontinue reading because I am truly going insane due to the amount of 'fuck, Gods and damned' the author once again uses. I have never hated language in a book as much as in these. I absolutely despise it. Gods, damn it's so fucking bad.

Violet: Hulk-like angry because her crush is keeping secrets in order to protect her.

Also Violet: Keeps secrets from everyone else in order to protect them.


I can't deal with the hypocrisy.

Good for them, not having to meet me. Angry and anxiety? Their brains would explode.

Going insane because of this childish fighting and fingerpointing between Violet and Xaden.

How I, a hater, am gonna call kings from now on: pompous boys.
