Couldn't get into it back when it came out, but I'm interested to see what's in here this time.

Not often I talk aloud to a book like some people watch sports, but damn. SOMEONE has to cuss out nearly every single parent in this book and I'll do it no problem.

In a series that is filled with cruel things and lost children, the saddest thing of all is being on the way out of a story. I never want these to end, really. The sad thing is they must and the even sadder thing is they're novellas, so the end comes sooner than later.

Hmm this is better than the last few mystery thrillers I've tried to read, but at this point (elemental spoilers) we've got evil Native characters and the premise of the book (everyone in this village lives in the same, huge building) hasn't been super evocative. I keep having to remind myself, "right, picture all this in the same, big building." Gonna stick it out, but we're approaching a blinking 3 stars rn

So far so good! The last few mystery thrillers I read I DNF'd there's not a record here, but it's been rough out here. This time I was actually looking for mystery only but this one sounded interesting on this list I was reading, so here we go!

Honestly, I've liked the POV characters so far and that's really the thrust of it. Being able to stand them? Big +, far more readable for me.

I really didn't know what to expect from this book. I love Stephen Graham Jones books and I trust this man, but this particular reason to be a killer has been so interesting. Becoming a slasher monster as a disease that gets inside you makes for a really tragic figure and I'm really excited to watch it pay off over the rest of the book.

Okay, finally getting back to this! I was too focused on how I didn't want to finish it too fast and just didn't end up reading it at all! well!

So far these have been a really insightful set of tools to be equipped with.

Distilling vast mechanisms deployed across a lifetime into really digestible tools feels like a deeply laborious endeavor and I'm really enjoying it so far. Whether they'll be useful in my writing or not is always a different question, but the presentation is very breezy and clear so far.
